Eldar? Space elves? All yours mate!The Other Dave wrote:Oh, also! Can you remember to bring that Avatar? I think I'm going to field Eldar myself (unless YellowStreak wants 'em) as my other choice, the Necrons, are a bit rules-bendy to use against newbie Epic players. (And since Eldar are pretty rules-bendy themselves, that's saying a lot.)me_in_japan wrote:Yo yo! I'm getting quite excited about all this epic shenanigansI've decided, btw, that if possible I'd like to play Nids, if that isn't a problem. Sorry for not being more decisive sooner. I take it I don't need more than a passing acquaintance with the rules to play? I intend to read em, but I can't promise actually knowing em. Btw - where is the best place to download the epic rules from?
What choices are left for me?

It's looking like Orks (Badruck has let me know he'll be using the Gargant Bigmob), Necrons or Titans. Orks are probably the easiest to get a handle on for someone new to this edition of Epic, as they have a grand total of two special rules, one of which just needs you to keep track of whether there are more units in the formation than you can count on both hands.YellowStreak wrote:What choices are left for me?

Re: Epicstravaganza Two: Good to Go
Beauty. Here are some ground rules for how I think I'll match people up.
In the morning, I'll put people who have played before against people who haven't. I'll be around to help out with rules questions, and I'm working on making my cheatsheet more user-friendly, but hopefully those of us who have a game or two under our belts will have enough of an idea of what's going on to guide the newbies through a game. (That does mean that I'll ask those of you who have played to take a bit of a teaching role, rather than a curb-stomping role. Curb-stomping can wait 'till the afternoon.
)
In the afternoon, I'll match up winners with winners and so on. Hopefully we can all use the morning game as a learning experience about what works with our armies and what doesn't, and really let loose in the second game.
As I say in the OP, I do want to try and get things rolling by 10, so try to get to the site by 9:30 or so. PM me for cell phone info if you think you might get lost.

Re: Epicstravaganza Two: Good to Go
Good time had by all! We had a couple last-minute cancellations, which was actually just as well as there was a miscommunication about the room and we got a room with space for only 2 tables - as it stands I have to apologize to Badruck for not getting a game in even though he came all the way up to town.

Prim & Ten square off, Marines versus IG Armored Regiment. I wonder if the Guard list I put together isn't a bit tricky for a new player - the Stormsword superheavies especially are a bit on the specialist unit side, and might have been better off replaced by solid all-rounders like Baneblades.

YellowStreak and MIJ line up. Nids versus Orks means lots of little guys on the board.

And later on, when they start getting well stuck in.

Eldar advancing on the Guard for Ten's second game of the day. I think I like the Eldar - I haven't had the chance to use them too much. Fragile, fast and shooty, although I may have gone a bit too far towards the elite side taking both Revenants and Scorpions. Ach!
Thanks to everyone for coming out, and I hope you all had a good time! I'm hoping to do a participation game of Epic at the free-play day of Nagoyahammer, and if people are too busy Warmachine-ing it up, I may get greedy and try to schedule another event like this one later on in the summer. We'll see!

Re: Epicstravaganza Two: Good to Go
Thanks again for organising things ToD. I had a good time. And thanks to Tenorikuma as well for being a good sport. Epic is a bit different from FB and 40K, so can take a little getting used to. I'm available for a rematch anytime you like.
