Re: Arts reform club. Ash's house. Jan.

Regular (and irregular) events in the Nagoya area can be posted up here. If you want to get your gaming fix, this is the place to look first.

Fair enough.

I would suggest not making a table and instead going with a cloth to cover it and the terrain to go on it.

Simply put, a full sized 6' by 4' table top will take up a lot of space, be a pain to transport and will either weigh a tonne to make it strong enough or will get damaged easily if it is light enough to move. Big, set piece tables are great for home use, but for something to use at a club event I think the cloth+stuff-on-top is the way to go.

Cloths are definitely convenient and good practicality for gaming I agree but I really enjoyed painting the actual ground before for Mordheim, especially the flagstones. So if it's a beach will probably have to make it as sandy looking as possible. Maybe something lighter than wood this time in case it's transported. Don't worry Prim I'll try to make as African sandy as possible so it can be used for.....wait for it zu.... anyway yeah you get the idea by now.

aha, but nay. My boards are really light, and if they were further split into 2x2ft sections (which it would need to be, for transportation) it'd be dead easy to carry one or two per person, given a sufficiently large plastic bag.

A very effective way of doing a board with a bit of carvable depth is simply wood base (you get it in 180cm x 100cm x 3~4mm bits. In kahma its on the left with all the polysterene sheets). Add a sheet of poly to that, glue it down. Add a rim of the same wood along the edge. It basically weighs in grams rather than kilos, and can be dropped on its corner and still be hunky dory. You need to muck about a bit with wooden batons on the edges and corners for reinforcement, but having done it once myself, I could certainly do it again.

You can then cover the surface with sand/cement/glue (lotsa glue) and paint mixed together. Start dark, and drybrush up. Y'all saw my WIP desert board pics. Same as that. For a beach, you could easily carve a slope down two of the squares and paint the bare wood a gradiated blue and bung on lots of gloss varnish. You could muck about wi waves too, if you wanted. Jetties and whatnot, if youre so inclined.

Or, moonbase with actual recessed craters...

If it was to be a spaceship surface, you'd need to put in a lot of wee hatches and things, and you'd have a cock of a time getting a smooth surface.

Tell you what lets make a lightweight board with NH in mind that is transportable but if it turns out to be a hassle space wise for the event then we can at least keep the board in Tsu and take the cloth with terrain to NH. That's if Prim needs it of course. Don't want to encroach if you already have enough stuff there. It would be good to have another board for Tsu anyway as we have 2 at the moment. One 40k, one Mordheim and so we can make one general all rounder.
Anyone is welcome to come and help out of course. It's not an exclusive project.

What say you can I cue that music, oh what the hell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MVonyVSQoM

Also, I approve of all the ideas in this thread.

Yeah I'd like to be Murdoch but I'd probably end up being B.A. although Spev might be able to pull that off better. I reckon Jus would be a good Face. Ah man it's way too late for this. :geek:

Having built a table using 1.5' squares and taken it from my apartment to the first Golden Week game I attended in Fushimi, I can honestly say it was a pain to transport it.
I also currently have a 3' by 4' gaming table for Cutlass consisting mainly of two 1.5' by 2.5' sections and they are also a pain to transport. So much so, that I dont even bother trying unless I have access to a car.
I'm not talking out of my arse here (for once  ), I do have some experience with moving large sections of terrain about. :D

If you want to make it, I wont try and stop you, and by all means bring it to NagoyaHammer, I was just offering some advice based on my own experiences. But M_i_J knows best as always.

As I said before, if there is anything I can do to help just let me know.

Oh, and Hannibal, obviously.

OK lets do this.

Ideas so far for a group painting project in 2012.

Make a board or terrain for possible use at Nagoyahammer in May as well as general gaming in Tsu. Can be used for 40k, fantasy and generic war-gaming.
So far we have ideas for either a beach theme, moonscape or an intergalactic battle-station.

Arts Club may be having a film day as well next year.
Suggestions thus far: Zulu, Whisperer in the Darkness and Easy Rider.
