For the Emperor, ye ken?

Post by AndrewGPaul » Sat Mar 05, 2011 12:37 pm

Just saw these on Frothers:

The conversion pieces are available:

http://www.victorialamb.com/wugs/drooki ... landx3.htm
http://www.victorialamb.com/wugs/drooki ... vycrew.htm

I think these would look good next to Forge World's new Hostile Environment Cadian kits; "Whit ye daein' standin' there in yer big coat, ya jessie? It's no' cold!"

Aye, those minis are bonnie.
Painting tartan on an IG infantry regiment though.... :? That would be a full time project I'd nae be interested in.

Actually, I wonder why the maker decided not to put bodies in. So long as the guns didnt look too similar to lasguns they could get away with it. Space Scots isn't something GW can lay any claim to. If I HAVE to buy the IG models anyway, I'd just go ahead and use Cadians since that way I dont wind up with a regiment's worth of useless legs and pay double the cost.
Honestly, if I was going to do a scots based army, I'd start from these:

or maybe some infinity?

I've got a load of those Ariadnans. Nice minis.

Personally, I prefer Victoria's approach. I've seen an army on Warseer that started with those Victrix minis, and I didn't like it. They looked like Napoleonics with the odd sci-fi weapon, not a 40K force. If you look at all the 40K Imperial Guard ranges, there's a commonality running through them - the same lasguns, special weapons, heavy weapon carriages, etc. Even the little details - all the 2nd edition regiments had the same canteens and body armour, no matter if they were inspired by WW2 Wermacht or SAS/WW1 Arab irregulars or US marines in Vietnam. Those conversion kits make achieving that "Imperial" look easier, since I don't have to add it back on to every single miniature.

Making the guns "not too similar to lasguns" totally defeats the point - if the guns look different, I'd need to replace them anyway. :)

Also, it's quicker and easier to just do the legs and heads than to do an entire range of miniatures. Looking at her website, the miniatures stuff is a hobby, not her job, after all.

Hmm ...

Celtic-themed Exodites? Sounds cool. The current Wood Elves in fantasy already have elements of that; just add a bit more woad and plaid and ginger hair.
