some folks have had an Idea.
The basic premise is: somebody wants to sell a model. Scenery, for example. They make the master model. If sufficient people show interest (i.e. pledge "I will buy that if you make it") then it gets mass-produced. They get paid, you get a copy of the model. If insufficient people wanna buy it, it doesnt get made, and no money changes hands.
First up: indestructible terrain. Not a bad sculpt, and not a bad price, either. Potentially very handy for those who cant be arsed making their own, and have to transport stuff e.g. to Nagoya. You could definitely just chuck this in a bag and go. No packing required.

Folks buying terrain?
What colour is the sky in this mystical fantasy world you live in, it sure sounds like a wacky and wild place to live?
Just kidding, I think it is an awesome idea for people to start bringing their own terrain to games. (Mental note, I need to post pics of my Cutlass Terrain at some point). Currently Pikey and I provide 90% of what goes on the tables at Joshin and even then, I need to get a lift from him to get my stuff there.
The kickstarter service is a nice idea. I know Wargames Factory, the firm that does the plastic 'Shock Troops in Greatcoats' has a similar service. The figure that they need to make 1000 sprues minimum to break even. So, they allow users to suggest models that they want made and people can say "Oooh, I'd buy that too!" Once they have a pledge of 1000 sprues they put it into production.
This kind of Make-on-demand stuff is cool for smaller businesses and I wouldn't be suprised if we saw more of this in the future.

Re: interesting terrain idea
I like the look of that kickstarter stuff, and being able to chuck a bunch of terrain into a plastic bag and not worry about it is a definite selling point.
I have to admit, now that I live so close, I've been feeling that I don't really have an excuse any more not to help out with terrain at Joshin. Main problem is, I have a lot of terrain, it's just all for Epic.
I could use a bunch of hills and woods, though, which tend to be scale-agnostic.
You know what? I'm going to commit: At the end of this month (when my hobby budget resets
) I'm going to buy a whole mess of hills and woods and bring them to Joshin every month from here on out.
