Woke up this morning after a humid night, to find an email announcing the cover art for Gates of Antares:-



Had to chuckle as the composition certainly conjures up the ghost of the first edition of that other sci-fi tabletop game.
Rick's comin' for yah, GW..
I really dig the image as it goes, and would like to try the thing out once it's released in book form.

Given my current less-than-stellar opinion of GW*, I am watching Antares with great interest. If they give me a system that allows me to use my heavily-invested-in 40k minis, I'd be well up for jumping ship. Time will tell...

GoA isn't a generic setting you can just use any old minis for, it is it's own, unique setting in the same way as Infinity or Warmachine. Of course, you can use your GW minis for it, though again it would be like using your GW minis for Infinity or Warmachine.
There are more 40K-ish games out there, Mantic do one surprisingly enough. But really, if you want to use your Eldar as Eldar, there is only one game that will really let you do that.

Yeah, I know that GoA isn't likely to allow for space elves on jetbikes, but hey ho, one can dream...

This evening, I have mostly been painting: tights. I hate sheer. I hate it to teeny tiny bits. Doesn't matter how many tutorials I read, I still end up with grey tights. For the moment, though, it'll do. Fairly happy with how the face turned out, especially since she's all "paint my face, will you? Ha! Ya gotta get past my all encircling hair/hat/boa combo, first, mofo. See how the feathers rise past my chin!"

That'll show her...



Ps - how do angelica's tights stay up? She ain't got no suspenders, least so far as I can see, and having spent the best part of an hour staring at her thigh I should bloody know...

I prefer to call it an 'homage'..

@MiJ, the Nu-hu mandarin model looks distinctly Eldary to me.. so I don't think it'll be a stretch to use (some) 40k minis comfortably in GoA at all. The Ghar faction are shaping up to be pretty orky too. The fluff seems expansive enough to allow lots of variation, just as RP intended with the original Rogue Trader. It won't be as prescriptive as 40k has become, so I think it might be easier to use non GoA specific models. Assuming of course you want to game in the big Antares universe.
Perhaps it can't do everything we want it to do for all grimdarky models, but I think this'll be worth a look, if you and others are game.
