Re: Black gesso blues
Is gesso any good for priming? I had always thought itd be too soft, and kinda rub off. Ive never used it on minis, tho.

Well, I won't pretend to be an expert on painting, but it seems to work well enough - Ennui recommended it to me first, and on googling I found several positive blogs and such for priming 40K miniatures with guesso.me_in_japan wrote:Is gesso any good for priming? Although everyone says you don't have to worry about putting it on too thick, I found that it is in fact possible to put it on too thick the first time I tried it out, but otherwise I haven't had any problems.
Re: Black gesso blues
And remember we are talking about BLACK gesso! The pigment in white gesso would be waaaay to coarse for anything but terrain. I've used Black (thanks to Ennui) and it does the trick. I used it to prime my Mordheim terrain, works like a charm. Contrary to being too soft, after it cures (24hours) it is really strong. Nice for foam terrain, as it will harden up those easy to ding and chip edges. The Underdweller wrote:Well, I won't pretend to be an expert on painting, but it seems to work well enough - Ennui recommended it to me first, and on googling I found several positive blogs and such for priming 40K miniatures with guesso.me_in_japan wrote:Is gesso any good for priming? For miniatures, there is not any real advantage over spray. It does take a bit of time to paint it on. Unless you have to prime something and it's too humid or you don't have enough open space to disperse the fumes. Not problems you'll run into here in Japan, right?

Three blocks past Hisayaodori intersection/subway station is a side street with a Coco and a building on the corner called "Sanyo Housing" with a big green 'S' for a logo. Turn right, and it's the third or so building on your left. The signs on the building should make it fairly obvious.Primarch wrote:Any chance of more accurate directions? Well, there's a great art supplies store called Central Gazai near Sakai / Oasis 21. They should have all that kind of thing. They also stock a lot of interesting scenery and scratchbuilding materials on the top floor, mainly for architectural model building (I think), but it should come in hand for miniature terrain and basing too.![]()
Cheers.

I went to Central Gazai today. That place is awesome. Thanks Ten!

A lot of people swear by it. Apparently it shrinks a bit as it cures, so it's really nice for highly-detailed models.me_in_japan wrote:Is gesso any good for priming? I had always thought itd be too soft, and kinda rub off. Ive never used it on minis, tho.
