Re: What did you do today.
Anyone know what brand paints would stick to wood well?
A place near my work has those wooden puzzle things where you pop the pieces out of a board and make something like the Eiffel Tower or whatever. They have one that's an old tugboat, and I thought it could make a great piece of terrain, like it's been grounded in the bayou or something.

I've had no problems with cheap acrylic paints on stuff like balsa wood and popsicle sticks but it does tend to soak up paint sometimes so I tend to give it a coat of mod podge or PVA glue which seems to help. Spray primer might help too.Grantholomeu wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 11:19 amAnyone know what brand paints would stick to wood well?

I'm guessing it's an MDF kit, (my wife bought a couple of them, the Eiffel Tower and a balloon).
They should take any paint you throw on them easily. The colours will look a little washed out though unless you seal the wood first as Karantu suggests.

I actually meant to ask about PVA glue too. What brands actually dry clear and matte?I tend to give it a coat of mod podge or PVA glue which seems to help. Spray primer might help too.

I'm usually cheap when it comes to terrain and so I just use cheap wood glue (木工用ボンド) that comes in the yellow bottles. It should be mostly clear (not sure about matte) once its dry but if you're painting over it that shouldn't really be an issue.Grantholomeu wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 3:02 pmI actually meant to ask about PVA glue too. That's tricky - they generally all dry clear (eventually, depending on how thick you put it on), but almost never matte, just because they're basically rubber and, unlike paints for miniatures, nobody really needs matte PVA enough for companies to try and develop one. Generally you'll want to sand after assembly or be very careful with glue getting on visible bits, or preferably both.Grantholomeu wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 3:02 pmI actually meant to ask about PVA glue too. Re: What did you do today.
I'm trying to find something I can use to put scattered leaves and whatnot on my bases.
Maybe it'll be best to just lightly put some glue on the base with a stick and then dump the scatter on top of that. I think gluing directly from the tube to the base would be too goopy.

Less than 20% of the Octarius scenery
On the plus side it's the last piece I wanted for the standoff so I should have my entry in this evening.

With the Climax Series baseball is (at least briefly) back, and so is hobby time!

That's only a moderate dint in the Stormcast backlog but at least the Harrowdeep mob is done and we can give some of the new cards a try.
