Today I came to the conclusion that all the new technolgy in classrooms these days is nice but the children seem a bit non plussed with it, even when it's working. Nothing beats chalk and a blackboard, eye contact and basic communication.

I'm going to paint to night and have a break from internet and PC. :)

I dunno, man. I use bboard and chalk (and eye contact) every day, and there are times I wish I had some kinda tech. iPads for all, or something, would be lovely...

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

It's OK sometimes when the school computers are up to date with the software we are running and it's running smoothly but you'd be surprised how bored they get with the gadgets quickly. They much prefer communication activities and games to staring at a screen. I try to keep the class moving as much as I can. I hate to have them just there listening to me. I'd much rather they were using the english with each other.
I teach elementary of course. I found when I took my pc in or used an iphone to play music with speakers it's exciting for them for about 5 minutes but in the end they get a bit envious and it annoys them I think to see luxury items in the classroom, especially from teacher. If it's their kit they seem to be into it a little bit more but they would much rather interact with each other and the class than sit watching screens. Still it's good to strike a balance. Biggest prob we have right now is the tech is in schools but the older teachers haven't been sent on a course for how to use it so it's a bit mottainai at times and mendoksai when the software for the kids textbooks doesn't run on the old school laptops. We waste about ten minutes set up of class time due to teachers not having the right leads and things. Even my note PC from 2010 was struggling today.

Today was an exercise in turd polishing and speed painting.

Allow me to explain.

As I am sure a few of you know, Mongoose games has recently done a Judge Dredd Kickstarter. The new minis are quite nice. Alas, the same cannot be said of the previous releases.

The old plastic gang box sets is quite turd-esque. Due to their turdishness, you can pick up a box of 12 gang members for under $2. I could not resist the temptation so I picked up a couple of boxes.

Today is my busiest day of the week. My first lesson is at 10 am, the last is at 8pm. I get a 1 hour break.

I set the task of getting one of the "turds" table ready by painting during the 10 minute breaks between classes.

Here are the results of my labours. Not the best paint job ever but good enough for the table, and not bad for the limited time I spent on it.

I actually dont mind the minis as they are good for random thugs and also look like regular humans when put next to Space Marines.

Brilliant Mus. You put my efforts to shame.
I had a paint of Goldberry today. First bit of painting this year. It's surprising how quick we can lose the skill when we have a gap. She wasn't looking all that so I dipped her. I'm going back to paint the details though.
It's nice not to be batch painting for a change. I can manage one mini a day at this pace. None of them related.
Lots of them for painting rather than gaming. I'm just killing the time before the inevitable pike and Shotte project and my empire army for the 2014 warhammer campaign. Assuming there will be one. I wonder if there will be a new edition by then?

And I don't think anyone would blame you or the marine ;)

He's got a first generation Star Trek feel about him. Must be the powder blue science officer uniform.
