Re: Painting Goals Motivational Thread
i must say those are looking rather nice. The colours work well together and theyre nice and neatly painted. Do you have a plan for their bases? And, is there any chance of a close up pic of just the one warrior? They look good as a group, but itd be nice to see one in close up (and in focus - theyre a wee bit blurry to make out details.)

I've got a few ideas for the bases, but I'm holding off until I see the new rule books terrain rules as I want to build my terrain about it. My main ideas are a rocky mountain area, winter, or something really chaotic.

For some strange reason, my cellphone refuses to focus on the model. Maybe it's too dark of a color.

I like the verdigris on the axe head. How'd you get that effect?
Feel free to call me Dave!

Re: Painting Goals Motivational Thread
I'm learning a few tricks on how to use washes. Instead of just a thin layer, dwarf bronze plus a good thick drop of green (not too much or it runs off) in the right place can really make a plague ridden look. I got similar results on their cloaks (though I can't get a good shot of it) making it tattered a full of mold feel. Papa Nurgle will be proud.
On a side note, this technique doesn't work well with silver or white unless there is a lot of a dark color (black being perfect) in the background.

Thats a nice close up, actually. More than clear enough to comment on. Up close, it shows the painting is very neatly done. You're definitely improving - bravo!
One thing I might suggest (and this is not intended as a criticism at all), is that the chainmail and the fur are too...clean...is probably the closest word I can think of. Some badab black on the chainmail (or you can muck about with shades and tints using coloured washes if you like) and some ogryn flesh on the fur would look nice, I think. You could even go for multiple coats on the fur, focusing in on the edge as you go. a quick drybrush after the washes (silver on the mail, whatever the original beige on the fur was) and you'll have lovely, well defined details.
I second TODs comment on the verdigris, btw. It's looking just right.
*edit* aye, ive found exactly the same thing with washes. Its better to really slap em on in quantity rather than be all careful with em.

@ The Colonel, - Looking good there. Nice neat painting and a good looking unit. I look forward to fighting it someday.

As for my own work, I have added a few more colours to my Marshals, but not much. I'm taking my time as they are fun to paint. I almost have my first blood angel finished. Last night I rebuilt a land-speeder that I got from ebay last year that was in pretty bad shape, and I fixed the guns on an attack bike that broke. I painted up some terrain pieces for SoTR and Malifaux, but still lots of work to do there.
I have a few hours free time today so I'm going to do more work on my Malifaux building and try and get my Blood Angel done. "Blood for the Blood Go....oh wait, thats not us, is it?"

Why? It has been so boring (apart from the All Whites) that you could probably get a good sized army painted during theAdmiral-Badruck wrote:I have to get back into painting... have not painted a thing since the World Cup started...

You'd rather watch football than play with warhammer models? What are you? Some kind of jock? Us geeks dont take kindly to jocks.Admiral-Badruck wrote:I have to get back into painting... have not painted a thing since the World Cup started.

I got half a Valkyrie built this afternoon. Yay not caring about football. Shame I didnt do anything on my Malifaux stuff but I had an urge to build.
