After a long break, I got back on the wagon, cleaned off my painting desk, and got a little work done.

Fixed some battle damage to my Ordinatus Golgotha (the dish antenna thing had fallen off in transit earlier).

Did some base decoration for some Epic minis. I got a little pot of terracotta texturing from the DIY store, and while it's probably too fine-grained for base decoration at 28mm, I think it'll do just the trick at 6. Much easier than mucking about with sand and PVA glue, too.

Hopefully I can motivate myself to do some base spraying (the Epic stuff plus some Tyranids for my Advanced Space Crusade project) before too long.

Built a bunch of Orks and Ork stuff. I realised that I will always love Orks and that GW has me by the short hairs.... I can't stop buying or building orkish stuff. I am planing on getting a few more Orks that I do not need but I just can't help myself.

One of the good point of Orks though is that nearly anything can be Orkish stuff with enough Kustomizin'

Today I built a Soviet Howitzer, a German MG team and half a Steyr Truck. (Will finish that tomorrow or Tuesday). I started painting some scenery and sprayed an undercoat onto some bits and pieces. I probably could have done a lot more but I wasted most of my day playing games on the computer. :?

Just did two hours of that exactly. but achieved master of the sword by killing 250 enemies of the imperium. So not a complete waste of time. Also got a ton of painting done today and completed my predator, model for my close ocmbat dread and two alternate arms for my other dreadnought. Plus figured out a way to keep my gaming table together. And then finished cutting out my battle cards.

Hrm.

So a couple things happened over the summer - I got a pot of GW's Foundation yellow (Iyanden Yellow), and my pot of Golden Yellow went dry. The former I have been using when painting my Scythes of the Emperor for Advanced Space Crusade (and it's working well there) and the latter I replaced with Vallejo's Game Color Golden Yellow-analogue, Gold Yellow.

I got me a whole bunch of old plastic Falcons for cheap off e-bay (never set 99 cents as your minimum bid, people!), and thought I'd test out using these two things for my Eldar.

Not so nice. The foundation yellow is sort of dull and grayish, which is fine, it's not supposed to look great on its own, but the VGC yellow doesn't have nearly the covering power that Golden Yellow did - not unusual for yellows in general, but especially for Vallejo - the big problem I have with their paints is that coverage can be very hit or miss. So the grayish tone of the foundation doesn't really get covered up, even with the application of some inks and washes and coats of brighter yellow.

It's probably good enough, and it's certainly a lot easier, taking several steps and lots of potentially detail-covering drybrushing out of the equation, but I'm glad the bulk of my Eldar are painted.

(On the other hand, I have to say, after years of scoffing at them, the old-school Falcons are pretty nice models.)

Nice work Dave,
There's not much of a difference, one is brighter. They both look good though.
I found a nice yellow from Tamiya that was a mustard yellow. This might be a bit dark for your ships but its good for clothes.
Great stuff from everyone. Must crack on with ECW this week.
Mind you Spring is coming, I really fancy some hiking once I shake this sore throat.
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

This weekend, I bicycled to Ichinomiya with my wife. We stayed the evening at my grandmother's place and had sukiyaki. The next day we rode along the trails from Ichinomiya to Inuyama, had lunch and coffee there and went hiking in the mountains behind Monkey Park. Then we bicycled back to town. It was a full weekend of exercise and some work, but zero painting.

Nice work Dave. I like the mix of new and old. To me it just looks good. And the paint job is nice.

@tod - try adding a touch of white to the foundation and a touch of orange to the Vallejo. That might pep things up a bit?

Nice. Got on the exercise bike today. Havent been on it in months. sounds like a great day though. I painted all day on Sunday and really felt unfullfilled. I had to get the painting done but would rather have done something outside.

today I got my game cards done for playing. Just need to laminate now.

I think a touch of orange is probably the answer - the wash I used here was Vallejo Gold Yellow + Vallejo Smoke, and while Smoke is the shiznit in all ways, something warmer may be needed to bring the color more in line with what the old method produced.

Not that I shouldn't really be working on Voss' Iron Warriors, heh.
