Dude! that ice golem is far and away your best painted mini. Nice one! Do some work on his base and you'll be laughing :)

btw, with regards to undercoating in humid weather: it shouldnt be a problem. when youre undercoating (regardless of weather) you absolutely DO NOT want complete coverage of a mini. You want a light dusting all over, nooks n crannies included, but you should still be able to see the metal/plastic through the paint. This is best achieved by holding the mini in one hand and the can in the other, spraying in wee puffs, like an atomiser, and moving the mini round and about so that all the surfaces are exposed to the puffs. The spray technique is probly best described as: not "ssshhhhhhhhhhhhpppppppt", but more "pfft. pfft. pfft"

The key here is that the undercoat is not a colour base. It is just a surface for the subsequent layers of paint to adhere to, thats all. Once its undercoated, THEN you can worry about colour. Airbrushes are what you need if you want to spray a whole mini with a colour. Or a big brush :)

Spray varnish, otoh, is a pain in the arse, as if you spray it in humid/overly dry weather you get frosting effects. i.e. it loses transparency and looks like mould. Its v annoying. fortunately for me, my worst affected models are my nurgle marines, who have mould anyhoo :P

Thats actually the most depressing compliment ever. White base colour, asurmen blue wash, quick/rough highlight of 50:50 ice blue and white, final highlight of white. Total time spent on the model: approx 30 minutes.

Thanks though.

not at all. Doesnt matter how long something takes, its the end result that matters. Fr instance, i think my blight drone is possibly my best painted model. Total paint time: less than a week, 2-3 hrs a day. For me, thats bloody fast. i spent 2 months on The Lion, and about 6 weeks on that jetbike on the front page. I can easily spend several weeks painting one infantry unit. Anway, the point is, the ice golem is nice. Give him a good base. (use cork for rocks. same painting technique, but use green in with the blue to differentiate it from the golem.)

Got to agree with M_I_J.

Who cares how long it took? The point is that it looks good. You also need to remember that the miniature lends itself to that kind of painting style. Do the same thing with your High Elves and let me know how good they come out ;)

but I do not think that is your best work... I would have to say that the some of the work you did on your Crimson Fists is better..

Another "Aww yuss!" picture from me:

And another vote for "it's the results that matter" on the ice golem. Some models just want to be drybrushed, and will look good with a quick paint job. Knowing when and how to make the most of that is a pretty important painting skill.
