Still getting through my British/Polish paratroopers. Berets, guns, webbing etc are all done. Faces and hair to do yet, and then the camo and wash. A good push at the end will get them all done I reckon, in time for May 2nd.
What did you do today.

Glad you 2 had a fun game
What did the Dark Angel's do to receive the fiery wrath of all those women??

Re: What did you do today.
Spent a good part of today talking to a building company. We've kind of settled on what we want, now we just need to find land.
Hobby wise, I managed to put a wash on 30 odd Zulus and an Imperial Guard Hellhound. Not the most impressive amount of work ever, but I'm glad it's out of the way.

Still awaiting the remaining Fallschirmjager for my Bolt Action force. I ordered the necessaries almost 3 weeks ago, but I suspect warlord are victims of their own success following their 20% off vehicle deal, nothing has been sent. I can't field or paint non-existent minis, so at this rate I may have to go with Dad's army at Nagoyahammer instead, which would mean far less hobby work.
I'll work up an alternate list at 750pts this weekend.
Watched the first 2 episodes of the new Coogan/Brydon comedy, Trip to Italy. I was a big fan of The Trip, this seems like more of the same, just a little less sparky at first watch. It's still rather good though. I have a feeling that repeated watches will reveal stuff I haven't noticed, just like the excellent and comedically layered Alan Partridge movie.
Monday I'll head to the British Embassy to register Louis' birth, then he can officially have a middle name.
I might also drop by the Yellow Submarine stores in Namba and swing by Iconoclasm.
http://www.hobbymetal-iconoclasm.com
Around 2008 ish, Iconoclasm was a terrific store (the biggest I have seen anywhere in Japan), offering 4 full sized tables of gaming and wall to wall minis (GW almost exclusively). I remember meeting a Japanese player with an amazing squat counts-as-IG army there. Nowadays the owner is in much straitened circumstances and is squeezed into a tiny apartment. Those Japanese GW prices I guess. Worth a visit though, I hope.

Re: What did you do today.
this evening I continued working on my corsairs. It's looking like the hornets should be finished soon. My big quandry now is: Do I spend the remaining time painting just the corsair captain (who I need to have a valid list), or do I just whack some slap on 'im and spend the rest of the time attempting to get another squad of corsairs done? As it stands, assuming I do get the captain done, I'll have exactly 1000 pts of painted corsairs ready for naghammer. If I read Prim's rules correctly, there is a chance I may have to field 2000 pts, if I dont get paired off with someone else by whoever the team big kahuna is.
hmmn. Actually, as I type this I realise that even if I were to not sleep for the next fortnight I would still struggle to get 2000pts done, so I guess maybe I shouldnt worry about the extra squad. Hum te tum tum. *MiJ thinksthinksthinks in a poohbear fashion*
In other news: I went to Toba aquarium this morning with the family. I can't help but find it terribly amusing that (due to a story book he's been having read to him recently) Sean now refers to crocodiles as "OH NO!"s. As in "papa, papa!" *gestures at croc exitedly* "OH NO!!"
As someone who grew up watching David Attenborough with my family it's very gratifying to see the lad with a healthy interest in wildlife. The only thing he was apprehensive of was the walrus. To be fair, both the walruses at Toba are clearly very accustomed to humans, and equally clearly quite friendly, so when they see someone interesting (and Sean seemed to qualify) they swim right up to the glass and press their noses against it trying to get a good look at you. Then they wallop the glass repeatedly with their flippers trying to get your attention. I can see how this could be intimidating for a 2 year old, given the things are about 4 or 5 metres long and about the weight of an elephant. They also hit the glass really fecking hard...

@ Koji: Oh, yeah, some of DA got to enjoy the attention of throngs of girls screaming and shrieking with pistols and blades. There was a laugh when one lone biker got the attention of St. Celestial and half a dozen girls. Who knows what was really going down for the three combat rounds in which both sides ineffectually pistol whipped each other.
Rowl.
@ Lovejoy: Same thing has happened with my order that was placed on the 30th. There has been no action on the order and I haven't gotten word back from Warlord at all. I have no idea what has happened to the company that used to be so responsive.
Tonight I was able to do some work on my DA devastators.

Paint whatever you want to paint, and just get the base colours on the others. Otherwise you'll get nothing done.me_in_japan wrote:this evening I continued working on my corsairs. I've just about finished one Tactical squad and their Rhino and a Captain - just decals and bases to go now. Got another squad and Rhino to do before the 3rd of May.
Re: What did you do today.
They are, according to what I've read on their forums, snowed under with orders from their recent vehicle sale and other promotions. Last weekend was the Salute show in the UK, one of the biggest events in the country, which will have taken up a lot of their time and resources as they had to take a lot of stock along. They are still a relatively small company compared to GW and too many orders at the same time will stretch their ability to respond. They can't just take on temp staff either as they need training in the differences between Romans, Paras and Musketeers or else they get more customers coming back with complaints.job wrote:@ Lovejoy: Same thing has happened with my order that was placed on the 30th. Re: What did you do today.
Yeah, but this is an issue that dates back sometime, too. I had the same trouble with my last order in February and got a similar explanation. The sale on vehicles began March. I do like Battlefront, but it is rather inexcusable to begin a Sale with an overburdened supply. Also not responding to emails is a separate issue.

I'll give you that, they really need to get on top of things before doing any more sales. On the forum everyone suggests calling them rather than emailing, but that isn't really an option for us here in Japan.job wrote:Yeah, but this is an issue that dates back sometime, too. Re: What did you do today.
Re: calling businesses in the UK - Skype is your friend here. For 10quid (or currency of your choice) you get oodles of hours of phone calls to any land line in the world (I mean, it doesn't need to be one line, it's just cash for calling whoever with). The time difference is quite helpful, as evening here is middle of the day there. It's probly not worth spending a tenner on Skype credit just to call warlord, but if, like me, you have family overseas, it can be very useful. I tend to use it to see if my folks are in the house, then once they answer we change over to FaceTime so the kids can see their grandparents and vice versa.
