I really like those judge dread models Andrew. Good painting.
MiJ, yeah in regards to the lion I think it looks great. When I first looked at it last week it seemed nice and bright and fresh.
The individual things like the gems etc look better on their own but now when you look at the model as a whole a little too perfect if that makes sense. It depends what style you are going for. Heavily stylised as it looks now or jungle natural. The contrast between the mane and the skin is a bit dramatic. Anyway of blending it to look more natural?
It looked great but as I said like a drawing that's never finished you can ruin the original feel of the piece with over thinking or adding. Maybe less focus on technique and more on the overall look. Can you lighten the main or darken the skin?
It is looking really good and the saddle is the thing our eye goes to first.
I reckon stop before you overdo the look of the thing. He's looking really good right now.

Ash, like the marines. Good touch with the markings on the helmet!

MiJ, love the gems.

And I see Dropship Commander!

Last evening I worked on the miners until late. I'm sleepy now.

@Job, dwarf miners? Did you work with a candle on head?

Nice work on the Dropship models. My rulebook is finally in the mail, which means I'm going to be re-tempted to buy into it before long.
Feel free to call me Dave!

Oh, boy. As much as painting after work is relaxing, doing it after 1am makes my eyes and mind all blurry and tired. Didn't quiet get to the candles. (Did you know the models have candles on their picks, too?) Actually still far from it for all the work. (I think I'm a rather slow painter.) Well, I'll be burning the midnight candle a little more these few weeks with Orc-toberfest and Analog coming up this coming month.

How can you say no to a little bling when you swing :D ? I think a jeweled pommel is something we don't see enough :)

Ash may be on to something regarding the mane? But MiJ was worried that the face would be lost if the main was too light, right MiJ?

I'll see what I can do re: naturalising the mane. It may be one of those things where real life is too unrealistic looking (as previously advertised I've looked at a lot of lion's manes of late, and the junction of mane and pelt is pretty clear cut.) Still, sometimes you have to paint what folks expect to see, not whats really there. I'll rethink it after Lelith is done.

Anyway...

Today I laid down a base coat on Lelith's skin. I hadn't realised there was quite so much of it  Chick's wearing nowt but a pair of boots, a strategically placed rag and a piece of string... :? In her defense, they're quite big boots...

no pics today, cos its just a base coat. Not very exciting, really...

It looks good MiJ. Maybe just a few highlights to the mane would sort it. Every Lion looks different,
I just had the MGM Lion in my head.
Today I spent about 5 to 6 hours magnetising these guys only to find out the storm will be in Mie from tomorrow morning. Darn it.

Thanks Jus for the great advice on this. Fantasy battle and transporting this lot just became a whole lot easier.

Finished a unit of 10 crossbowmen. They still have finishing touches to do, but they're good enough for orctoberfest. Pistoliers and knights to come!
