Re: What did you do today.
Got my horsemen basically finished up last night - a bit of highlighting on the green and then base decoration and they'll be done. Also got a bunch of dwarves and goblins primed up. Hopefully I can bang them out in the next week or so, then move on to what's left - just a few spearmen and trolls, by the look of it. Then I can start my patented anal-retentive planning of what to paint in earnest, heh.
Feel free to call me Dave!

Re: What did you do today.
This evening I worked a smidge on the base for my razorwing and also my super secret project. It's been a while since I built a big base, and it's taking me longer than id like. Still, progress, progress...

@ MiJ: Thanks for the tips. They were very useful. I made a note of the things you recommended and I'm looking to procure much of them.
@Dekana: Those are beautiful ladies. I think they are going to be very popular with your allies and enemies.
Tonight I put in some time with some Terminators I dug up in my collection and adding detail to the bloodletters.

Re: What did you do today.
@job - happy to help. I'm doing a lot of resin work just now myself, so it's all right in front of me. Actually, my work desk looks like a bomb site
I was doing some rather extensive dremmeling the other day, and wee wiffly bits of resin went bloody everywhere. They're too big to puff away with a breath, and they're also charged with static, so they stick to bleedin' everything
Oh, the things we do for our art...

Re: What did you do today.
Didn't get around to any hobby stuff today, but I'll try to get more troop building done before I go to bed.
For the bases, would it be better to first do the base and then glue the model to it, or glue first and then do the base? I get the feeling that if I glue the model first, the end result will look like a soldier with her boots sunk into the sand.

Re: What did you do today.
@dekana - a good question. It kinda depends on how fussy you are. Most people, I think, glue the mini to its base, texture the base, paint the mini, then paint the base. This caaaaan lead to "boots in the mud" syndrome, but generally most folks don't care. The alternative is painting them separately, and for slotta bases this leads to unsightly gaps around the tab.
For what it's worth, what I do is make (or buy) a whole army's worth of bases right at the start. Making these individually would be a nightmare, so I make a representative amount (usually 10 for small bases, 5 for medium and 2 or 3 big) and then use silicon to make moulds for resin casting. Or you can just buy a bunch of em. Anyway, having procured my bases, I stick em to a piece of wood (I use gomu tape, sticky side up) and can then proceed to airbrush/drybrush/wash the whole shebang en masse. Once all the bases are done I just need to clip the tabs off all the minis (do this before painting) and then proceed to painting the minis. I tend to lightly glue them to their slotta while I paint them, so I have something to hold them by.
Meh, having read over my method, I'm sure you can see why most folks just glue em to the base and texture over th top...
