Today I had a very fun game of 40k, of all things - first I've had since Naghammer 2015. It was me (dark Eldar) vs Ashmie (ultrasmurfs) vs Egor (Eldar) in a 3-way game. Nice and relaxed atmosphere, nobody all that fussed about wining, and all in all a fine example of how fun 40k can be. Int'resting to note, we played the scenario according to a set of rules that magically popped into my head the day before, and it worked surprisingly well. 3-way games can easily become unbalanced, but this one worked out nicely. In case they may one day be useful, the rules we played were:
6 X 4 table. P1 sets up along one short table edge (12" deployment zone) the other 2 players set up along the 2 long sides, with each dep zone 4ft X 12" (as far from p1's edge as possible). This results in a table where p1 is 12" from each of the other 2 players, and they are 24" from each other. Each player then places 1 objective for each of their opponents inside their own deployment zone. You only score points by capturing your own objectives. Finally, kill points are used, but a player can only score a KP from alternate opponents. Ie if p1 kills p2's unit, he may not score another KP from p2 until he kills a unit belonging to p3. He can then only score a point from p2, and so on, back and forth.
Overall, this resulted in players not picking on anybody overmuch, and also moving around a fair bit (well, except ash, but he made a conscious decision to castle up.)
A good day of 40k. Many thanks to Ash and Egor, and also to Satoru for organising the day.
