red. Its the opposite of blue, and it would pull out the red in the shoulder pad and on the chest. I'd maybe only do the power coil red, and keep the power cable an unobtrusive colour, as it's quite a large surface to do red and would detract from the blue. For the power coil do it an almost black-red, and then drybrush regular red over the top so it catches the raised areas. Then drybrush a red-orange over that, but do it very lightly. Then paint the gun black again, cos you'll have gotten red all over the gun from the drybrushing by that point.

btw, you need something red in the lower left quadrant of the mini to balance it. Either on the mini itself, or on the base.

The bare arm is a bit dark, and doesnt really stand out as it should. Try two or three more layers of highlighting - up to maybe a creamy brown (but not over the whole arm - only the top surfaces of the raised muscles and on the tops of his fingers.) Then give it a red glaze to balance it with the rest of the mini.

ps when i say "top" i mean the surface on the mini which is pointing upwards, not the actual tops of his fingers.

Second block of Gobbos, plus a Shaman, plus a snazzy "made entirely from stuff from Daiso" movement tray, done! I just have to put the green flock down on the bases, which'll happen in an hour or so once I'm sure the varnish is dry.

should I use my moderatorly powers to split this thread into separate ones regarding Rob's world eaters, TOD's gobbos, my corax, and so on? or are people content to fight over ownership as folks post new comments?

I, for one, like seeing a bunch of folks' progress in the same thread. Makes it feel more communal-like. (We might want to start new threads, say, monthly, so they don't get too long, though.)

ok dokey. I'll make a new topic with the same name come July, and lock this one at the same time. Till then, feel free to clutter it up with pics - like this!

Huzzah! fully armed with the wisdom of the froggy balding one, I have continued to slap paint on Corax. To the uninitiated, it might appear to be deceptively similar to how it was a week ago, but it has in fact been completely re-done. With smoother blends, I hope. And a wee bit of green and some other colour jiggery pokery that doesnt really show up very well, but hey ho. Anyway, the right power claw is done, now for the left one...

and one with a black background, as the blue bg kinda detracts from the OSL a bit.

the actual coloration and smoothness is somewhere between the long and the short exposure. Im having trouble getting it to show up correctly, so ive been dicking around with flashes and exposures and whatnot. anyway. Dat's where he's at so far. Whaddya all think? Is my lighting in the right place, or is is wack?

*edit* hmmn. Upon closer perusal, those feathers need a-fixin'. I'll do that tomorrow. It's amazing how poo something looks when it's on the internet in hi-res compared to how it looks in real life. :(

*subedit* where'd that bloody green shade in the background come from? Bleedin photoshop and its "well thats the colour you were using last time" smartass trick... :x

I know, the first time I took a picture of a model that I thought looked good in high res I almost cried when I saw it close up on the screen.

Strange but a lot of my models look better in the pictures than on the table
