It's the first painting I've done in...24 years? Excited to be ruining perfectly good models again

I went out to Plamojuku, bought a bunch of stuff, and spent hours trying to get a bit of colour on some plastic. I'll need considerably more time but should end up with some Orruks that look like toffee apples and a bunch of vaguely Space Wolf coloured covered crates, barrels and Munitorum Containers.

Nice, welcome back to Paint Country! This American is frantically googling, still unsure if “toffee apples” are bright red or light brown, though.

Re: What did you do today.
Just to show I've still got it when I'm on the ball, over the past couple days I painted up these guys, a few speargoblins and squig hoppers to bulk out Zarbag's Gits from Underworlds into a WarCry-ready force:

The bases not matching is a shame, but I don't have materials on hand to make cave-y stuff. WarCry doesn't have stats for a fanatic, so I figure I'll proxy him as a boingrot bounder if I want to use him. It was nice to revisit the Blood Pass speargoblins with a bit of time to paint them - I actually painted these four from zero to match the standard I painted Zarbag's fellas to, which I can when I only have to paint four and not a hundred.

Nice work ToD. While the bases may not match, the other parts of the models look perfect together.

agreed - the general tone of the bases is close enough, and the minis themselves are very much complementary to each other. Very nice work.
My own painting is still languishing somewhere halfway through those ghosts I was doing a week or so ago
Hopefully I'll be able to get them done soon (tm)...

Re: What did you do today.
Thanks guys! Apparently I'm back in Painting Mode, because:

Last night I played around with a set of flesh tones (from Vallejo) I picked up over the weekend, because all the exposed skin on the WarCry warbands had me dreading life, so why not just bite the bullet and try something entirely new? And I dig it, and it's actually got me jazzed about painting up a few sets of models with a lot of exposed skin. I guess I need to add flesh tones to grays and browns on the "paints that are totally worth buying a dozen ever-so-slightly-different colors for instead of trying to mix for yourself" list.
(I'll probably hit the scars and places around shackles with a deeper red/purple ink later.)

Lovely stuff Dave. The killer Smurfs are awesome. I always loved me some goblin craziness. Nice start on the Warcry baddies. Putting some purple in your flesh tones is a good way to creepify the mini.

I sat in the Kuala Lumpur GW store and assembled three Reivers, thirteen Intercessors, a Primaris Battle Leader (Space Wolf version of a lieutenant) and a drop pod. Hoping to get them painted before I get home and then take them out for a spin at the next game day!
Looking forward to seeing that warband on the field, Dave!

Heh, it took me another whole day to get a bit of Space Wolf Grey/The Fang on them. I'll post pictures at some point when they have more than one colour each

Re: What did you do today.
good to see folks are painting. I've done nowt hobby related for a few days, partly due to having been away camping over the weekend (which was surprisingly successful for a first attempt. The south of Mie really is rather nice, and since we were away sun/mon, we actually had the camp site to ourselves, which made the whole experience rather peaceful. Finally saw my first wild boar, too, after over 15 years here
)
I also got my Brawl decks irl for Magic, which I'm actually quite pleased with as I pre-ordered them a good while back for 7000en, and they're currently going for 140usd elsewhere, so I'm basking in the warm fuzzy feeling of a bargain well snagged.
I've also been playing the geetar a bit, which is good, as at the moment my son's hours put in vastly outnumber my own
I also unlocked a Steam achievement for it - "wake the neighbours - play a session between the hours of 11:59 and 3:00am", which I'll concede made me crack a smile
I'm pretty busy with work this week, so I dunno how much painting will get done, but I shall ganbaru...
