Going on Record

Post by The Other Dave » Wed Jun 01, 2011 2:33 pm

Just to try and keep myself honest ('cause I've listened to myself waffle a lot recently :D), I'm going on record:

I'm not going to buy anything for a given game system until I've painted everything I have for it. That means:

No, Dave, you can't buy that 2nd edition Space Marine box with all the models and buildings still on the sprues that's up on eBay at the moment. Nor the Epic 40,000 box with all the models and buildings still on the sprues neither. You don't need any of that stuff. You can probably hold off on those cool acrylic roads and the zuzzy mat too. You have a mat and some felt roads. Make do.

No, you can't ditch your unfinished Everblight force for an alligator army. Paint up those archers and pasta pot handlers! Play Legion more!

No, you can't buy an expansion set of 6mm Napoleonic Brits. I mean, honestly. You only have 2 bases painted up so far anyway. You know what, how about painting up a bunch and getting a game in, say, this year? (Honestly!)

You know what you may buy? Some Flames of War, like you've been saying you would for a very long time now. Get at least a platoon of something and get painting. Sorry, no Dystopian Wars 'til you've collected and painted at least 1000 points.
Feel free to call me Dave!

A noble goal to be sure. Since you generally dont seem to buy a lot anyway, I think you can probably do it. Go for it! Fightoo!!! Ganbatte!!!!
Seriously, I know I couldn't manage this.

It's true, I don't! I'm a bit of a cheapskate, plus I have a single pool of money every month for drinking, wargaming, computer gaming and chocolate. It's kind of for that reason that I wanted to make sure I didn't buy only models for games nobody else plays, heh.

I'm not at all sure I can, heh.

But an Armored Rifle platoon for the Yanks is in the mail, so that's a start. (Then I realized that that's only like 250 points and got a little depressed. :D)

I think there needs to be a twelve step program for lead addiction.
Going on record sounds like a positive step. Only 11 to go. We're there for you Dave.

Awesome, man. If you ever want to try out some American stuff, I've got a descent collection of tanks, artillery and infantry options to try out alongside your AR platoon. I think you are going to find they are one of the toughest nuts in the game. :)

I sympathize with your commitment to paint what you collect. I hate to say this, but I find periodically selling off or giving away the excess stuff helps me clear up my back-log of stuff to paint.

Yeah, I did a big old purge 3 or 4 years ago before moving back to Japan, and I've been pretty good about only buying stuff I was sure I was going to paint since then. That's why I spend so little, heh - that plus I paint really slowly.

We'll see how long the FoW stuff takes to get painted. My hobby budget probably allows me a new platoon or so every month, so I may be up to 1000 points of stuff Owned By Me by fall even.

Sounds like a good paint schedule to me. I'm hoping to have my 1k of 40k done by then, so I think your paint pace is pretty good.
