good call on the motivational thread.
my current project (as it has been for about 3 million years, by the feel of it) is Stu's other primarch - Corax. It was converted/sculpted/hewn by Phil (Dungeon Lord) and has been sitting in a box in my house for about 2 months now. It was taken out of its box shortly after naghammer in golden week, and i undercoated it, carefully highlighted all the black, and blocked in the white areas (different types of white for different things.) the problem was, I had completely lost interest in it. Its not that its a bad model, i just wasnt in "defender of humanity" kinda mood. I tried. I really did, but the muse was gone
but then...
i was browsing on CMON and saw a really ace article about OSL in the dark and I thought "ah, sod it, lets try it and see what happens." So, a couple of days ago I painted the entire model black again, pulled off his head (sorry phil!) and set about blocking in some white splotches to see if i could roughly work out where light would be.
Thats where it stands at the moment. I find OSL very, very hard to work out. I can kinda picture where it should be, but when I stick the paint on it's clearly wrong. Not sure what I can do about it, but at least Im feeling sufficiently motivated to keep trying. My intent, btw, is to have 3 light sources. Colour, at this point, is optional. The light sources will be the Inside of the neck of the suit, and the two lightning claws. NOTE the gloves themselves are white, the blades are going to be the light source. I havent painted them yet.
So far Ive roughly blocked in the light from the neck of the suit. What I wonder is: should I paint the non-black bits of the model before I add the light or after? My image is of him being in the dark, lit solely by his own light sources, so anything not directly in line with a light source should, in theory, be black. How would that work with his white shoulder pad? any ideas, anyone?
