Cool Minis

Post by kojibear » Sun Mar 04, 2012 1:22 pm

I like these minis from ANDREA MINIATURES but one is 32mm and the other is 52mm.

I think 32mm is too big when compared to GW minis I believe :( If I use her she would be some kind of female giant elf.

And the Cold One Rider :)

The cold one is massive (and über expensive) but the 32mm one should fit GW scale fine. Warhammer minis are 32mm heroic scale. Lotr minis are 28mm true scale, so yon elf should be fine. It does vary a bit, tho. For example, I got a skorne (warmahordes faction) dude to use as a dark eldar archon and found he was too big. I got an Infiniti sniper to use, and she was too small. All 3 games are 32mm scale, but I guess the various developers like to make life difficult for us mix-and-matchers :) (buuuut, my heresy miniatures all fit the GW scale perfectly).

I say get the elf, and if she's off scale then meh, at least you got a nice mini to paint :)

"28mm", "heroic 28mm", "30mm", "32mm" is all b******t. It's not just the heights of the miniatures (which as anyone who plays Cygnar in Warmachine will tell you, varies wildly in the same range), but the bulk and the proportions. Then there's the question of are they measuring from the sole of the foot to the top of the head, or to the eye (that's always good for an argument on wargames forums). Knight MOdels advertise their smaller Star Wars models as "30mm", yet Han Solo is 32mm to the eyes, or 35mm to the top of his head. Harrison Ford isn't renowned for being a giant, so Knight Models are just being misleading.

Infinity, by the way, describes itself as "28mm" (and GW haven't bothered to describe their models in terms of a "standard size" in years*) and even then, the newer models are noticeably different to the first few. this guy is massive compared to these guys even though he's allegedly the same troop type. About the best you can do - in the absence of a side-by-side photo - is compare them based on base sizes, and hope the perspectives don't throw things out.

Frankly, it's only a problem if the models have details that should be the same size but aren't - for instance if I'm painting WW2 Germans, it's OK if one guy is 27mm tall and another is 29 or 30, but they should still have the same sized K98 rifle)

*since I had her handy, this lass (on foot) is 29.5mm to the eyes and 32mm to the top of her head. I chose her since she's the only GW human Warhammer model I have.

Clearly this is an issue AGP has come up against in the past :)

My advice is still just buy the mini and see :)

Hmm...how can I get this dinosaur riding barbarian female into my Wood Elf army? :D

I wonder if it is possible to field an all female Warriors of Chaos Army... :?: She would be a rather cool general me thinks.

Just a word of warning: I have 3 studio Mcvey minis, and they are definitely not gaming pieces. Fragile and fiddly describe them very well, unfortunately. Beautifully detailed and a dream to paint, yes, but liable to break if you look at em the wrong way.

That is good to know. Cheers. Still, she is a mighty fine axe wielding, dinosaur riding, head taking, barbarian female! :D
