Golden Demon Japan

Since the original Golden Demon thread has died down, I was wondering who is still thinking about going to Tokyo on August 18. Just hoping I'm not the only one. :)

I was reading some of the articles MIJ linked to. It sounds like the single-model categories are the toughest, so I'm leaning toward either a Fantasy squad entry or a diorama. Not that I have any expectations of winning anything, but I think it will be a lot of fun geeking out for the day and seeing what other painters in Japan are up to.

I'm not going, but you should Ten.

Incidentally, if you go to the front page of the website (ie. www.nagoyahammer.com) you will see our new mascot. :D

hurrah for the new kid on the block. Ol' jetbikey has served us well, but now he can rest his weary wraithbones :D Yon elf is looking good. The question is - will an elf win again next year, or will the dastardly forces of evil become the new poster boys? Greater Daemon of Nurgle ftw, anyone? Nekkid daemonette, p'rhaps?

ps - my advice (and the advice I myself am following whilst considering my entry for next year, should it come to pass) is:

1) enter more than one category. One of these can be single mini, but it should really just be for shits and giggles. Don't put pressure on yourself.
2) Paint something you want to, but do consider the GW judges. New is better than old, and really old (or ltd edition, or otherwise hard to find) is probably an auto-lose. an example would be an eldar bonesinger (ltd ed, cant buy em anymore) or a squat. Conversions, however, are definitely a good thing. The articles "How to win a Golden Daemon" are very, very good. I've heard that advice echoed by several GD winners on CMoN.
3) Don't bite off more than you can chew. e.g. I kinda want to a unit of skinwolves, but itd cost me upwards of 70quid, and my idea includes a rather fiddly scenic base involving trees (which I dont know how to build) and moonlight (which I dont know how to paint.) Yes, I could learn, but p'raps a squad of eldar banshees might be easier on my brain...
4) Make sure you know the rules about categories and what is and isnt ok. Theyre fussy buggers, or so I hear.

Hm, do I go Wood Elves then, or Tomb Kings (my second choice, since I like the Egyptian theme)…

Is that the case? Is there any evidence of older miniatures being overlooked by the jusges, or are they simply not entered?

Ofcours I'm going!
Ill be entering 3 categories
40k Single mini with a Grey Knight Brother Capitan
40k Larger Vehicules with an Eldar revenant Titan
40k squad with Grey Knights terminators

I wanna go for diorama since I used to be very good at it but I have no time. But atlest the 3 models I'm entering wont be like the Nagoya hammer ones where I had to time to spare on them other then a day for the single mini and a week for the tank!

Hopefully I'll make it in the finalist... For a Golden demon tho I'm not sure... But it's fun to dream.

Anyway if anyone wants to hook up for the GD I'm down I'll probably be crashing a friends house 5min from Nakameguro station on the days before and after

Sweet, post progress photos for us if you can. I only have time to get one entry ready, so I've decided on a Fantasy regiment, Wood Elf Waywatchers with a dark assassin theme. (Gonna call them "Nightwatchers" or something like that.) I want to sculpt some custom capes for them, but we'll see how that goes.

Trying to keep the projects secret lol just atlest the Titan one... But the others I will. Not even sure I'll have time to finish. I have a tone of Comission work to do but I'll try my best.
