I am torn

Post by The Other Dave » Mon Jul 09, 2012 6:08 am

On the one hand, GW now has an official 40K tape measure, for 1600 yen. I can hear all your eyes rolling from here.

On the other hand, it's a 1600-yen servoskull tape measure.

I... actually wouldn't mind getting one of these. It just manages to be so perfectly simultaneously dumb and cool.

Build your own! That would be dumb, cool AND crazy! And rig it up with fiber optic lights so it glows!! Oh, oh! Laser pointer shooting out of the cyber eye! Yes!
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....

Poor, silly old GW. :D

During the Golden Era (strong yen, pre-embargo) and even before I would have bought one in a second, but all of their shenanigans recently have just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I admit my Spevna stance wasn't locked in as tightly as some folks but I am just not prepared to give them my hard earned dough quite so easily. Which is really their loss, as I am totally the type to buy all sorts of bells, whistles and accessories for pretty much anything hobby/sport/activity that I'm into. Blows virtual raspberry in GW's general direction.

It's okay, the Spevna will make you one out of paper.

Hold firm brothers.

@Mike - You know those raspberries from the tallest tower!

@The Admiral - Yes, square in the nuts. And then a head butt for good measure.

@The Other Dave - I wouldn't buy it because it looks pretty dumb and not very solid for the price you'd pay.

Oh, I'm sure it's a complete PoS that'll fall apart within a few months of solid use. But the "looks pretty dumb" thing is actually a selling point for me, kind of. It's entirely dumb-looking! The only way it could be dumber is if the cyber-eye was an actual laser pointer! I have no idea why, but that over-the-top awesome-to-a-12-year-old dumbness has a certain ironic appeal for me. It's a personal failing, I'm sure.

(Not, of course, that I'd really ever purchase one. But if I got one as a stocking-stuffer I'd love it.)

Fair play mate.

Give it a month and someone will be doing their own IP infringing version of it ;-)
