WIP December

Well, November was frankly a bit of a quiet month for painty stuff. Now that folks have got their shiny new Dark Eldar, and others are (hopefully) getting their painty groove on for Winter Blitz, with a bit of luck December will be more active.
First up: this is my test scheme for my Dark Eldar. The red is pretty much fixed, but the blues are open to modification. Any suggestions you have will be very welcome, and may even result in changes to my entire army scheme. things to note are:
1) it has to be easy to do on a lot of guys. This scheme took about 3 hrs, start to finish including base. Now, that involved a lot of thinking time and re-doing of colours. I reckon I could churn out about 1 of these guys every 1 1/2 or 2 hrs, witha bit of effort.
2) purple is not an option. Im not being facetious here, i did actually try a purple loincloth. It just jarred with the red too much.
so, here he is: Test Subject #1:
All together now: "braaaaaaainzzzzzzz"

slightly different angle...
btw - the slightly gloss effect is due to Tamiya clear red and smoke. Itll go away when i varnish it. (or i could use gloss varnish on the armour. Hmmnnn..)
The loincloth is troubling me. too similar to the ground, p'raps?
oh, and the slightly blotchy effect is pretty much indistiguishable in real life. Im not too fussed. he's basic infantry. if he's on the table, he's probably dead...

Reminds me of my Khorne boys.
I reckon it looks good. The blue needs to have a stark highlight to make it "pop" a little more.

I agree with Spevna: It looks good in pictures, but I suspect it would look like a little dark blob on the tabletop.

Maybe a blue wash and then a greyish highlight on the loincloth to distinguish it from the ground and unify it with the rest of the model. Otherwise, what Spev said.

Sorry, I'm gonna have to be a grinch here and say - me no likey.
The execution especilly the blue bits, gold and white look OK but IMHO the main armour makes it look like he has been dipped in melted chocolate. Maybe it's just the clear red or whatever.
Humblest apologies

I rather like the red armor but I think you still need to find what will make the model stand out... I am not sure that a white base does what you want it to do... that said I cant think of any useful advice...

Since when has being dipped in chocolate
ever been a bad thing?

If you happen to be allergic to cocoa extract, like some people I know

. Wow, awesome pose, and a good clean effort but msrry MIJ, but I think I have to agree with Mike the grinch. While a suitable style/pattern with the highlights, the choice of color combinations don"t agree with my palette. The brown red chocolate especially. I tend not to deviate from the official GW paint shcemes because IMHO because I reckon their color combinations are the best, not to mention iconic. Your nurgle marines painted with that mottled green color fit perfectly with the models, and were very nurgle looking. Here, brown and blue, I'm not feeling much of the dark eldar vibe.
Humblest apologies
