I thoroughly approve of the whole "swing round corners on a pole" pose. Im likely to do it on my own hellions, in fact. Theyre as yet unpainted and indeed un-stuck-together. Why is this? Well, its cos I got a new PS3 today, and have spent a joyously unproductive day having the bejeezus scared out of me by space zombie mutants in Dead Space. Predictions for 2011: dave's glacial painting rate is about to get...geological.
Pfff. Pfff I say. I call Pfff on your outrageous claims. I rack up a good 10 hours a week on PC games (on a slow week) and still manage to paint at a glacial speed.
The trick is to set time limits on yourself. Games can suck you in just as much as painting can. Similarly, when your eyes start burning because you haven't blinked in the past 14 hours that means its a good time to call it a day.
The way I manage my game playing time Vs hobby time is based on how likely I am to be interrupted. E.g. When I get home after work I usually have 1 hour before dinner time and 2 after to relax. I know that when I am summoned for food that I must finish what I am doing, so I play games when I get home and when the food hits the table I hit the save button. After dinner I can sit and paint whilst my wife watches TV and I wont get bothered for a good couple of hours. (Of course, I waste endless amounts of time posting on this forum or scrabbling through my games room looking for the one bit that I absolutely need).
Just like painting or anything else, dont let video games dominate your every waking moment, try to vary your free time activities and you'll A) feel refreshed, B) achieve something and C) wont have zombie space mutant pirate dinosaurs scaring your witless all night.
