Daemon Army Centerpiece

Post by Seb » Wed Feb 16, 2011 7:50 am

I just ordered the model which I will use for my centerpiece today from Iconoclasm in Osaka. I really like the recent Plastic daemon prince kit, but I am always stubborn about having my centerpiece in metal, so I found the perfect one. Personally I think that this is an awesome model:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... rod1110281

I will make some minor conversions to the head and weapon to personalise it, just don't know what yet, it is hard to customise such a well done model.
But I would like to be able to field it as both a greater daemon or a daemon prince, the model itself is a little bit smaller than the original GW Bloodthirster model. Shouldn't be a problem if I build a bigger base..

Yup, I said bloodthirster, so I guess I am leaning more and more towards a Khorne army... but..
it seems like a major disadvantage to not be able to use 75% of the units in the codex just because you want a "pure" army. I guess the majority of the army will be Khorne, with minor support from other daemons.

I think that model is great... pricey but great non the less... I play Khorne Daemons I think what you will want to get soon will be some flesh hounds... so far I have not gotten any but I figure they are a must for any Khorne army in FB or 40k... and for 40k I would say Soul Grinders are a must... they do not have make of Khorne but they do have a very Khorny look to them... if you get one there are a number of bitz I would like to buy from you...

whoa is that thing a plastic kit? its awesome. Yeah khorne doesn't use magic per-se but that doesn't stop them from enslaving tzeentch sorcerers to do the casting for them ;) Like in fireborn, a 40k audio book.

I thought you played Nurgle daemons because of all the cool nurgle minis you had last time.
Soul Grinders are cool but really big and expensive too :)
Too bad they are not compatible with fantasy.

No, this is metal. I chose this one because the new daemon prince kit is in plastic, I wanted a metal one.
I might be using bits from the daemon prince kit for conversions though.

Wha....?
I am flabbergasted and dumbfounded by that. Surely that goes against all of Khorne's fluff?

Also:
Khorne Lord - We captured you and now you have to cast spells for us!
Tzeentch Sorceror - Ok, I cast....TELEPORT!

Seriously though, that is just weak.

I have Khorne but I play Nurlgle more these days... I take 2 plague hulks... and a Great Unclean One with a heap of plague bearers... and a Daemon prince...

Thats the problem with mono-god armies. You dont actually have many other options than the ones you've just listed.
I think that a mono army looks very good on the tabletop, it has a nice unified colour scheme, similar looking models etc etc, its just that you lack variety, especially given that most daemon units dont get much in the way of upgrades to separate Bloodletter unit A from Bloodletter unit B. A mixed army on the other hand gives you a stronger force, but doesnt look so cohesive when seen as an army.
Personally I find daemons in 40k to be a little underwhelming, but very very hard to beat in fantasy.

Don't look at me. Please direct such comments to feedback@blacklibrary.com

I'd imagine that it is more along the lines of this:

Khorne Lord - We captured you and have broken you. Also flogged you to an inch of your life with the cat of hundred tails, broken your arms and legs in several places and have chained you securely to a great feffing boulder to which your hands and feet are also pinned to with large rusty nails. Now summon me a blood thirster/bind my champion to a dreadnought, because none of us know how to. If you somehow still manage to teleport some short distance away, albeit being chained and cruicified to a rock, I will find you and part you from your manhood.

Tzeentch Sorceror - Ok you win, I cast....summon blood thirster/bind champion to dreadnought!
Surely that goes against all of Khorne's fluff?
Disagreed. Surely just taking one prisoner, who is probably going to die anyway, once he outlives his usefulness, doesn't go against the grain THAT much does it? I think it fits the fluff well enough, and so does GW by the looks of it. Please listen to Fireborn, its actually quite good, and the Khorne lord does successfully force some poor schumk of a chaos sorcerer to bind his champion to a dreadnought, without the sorcerer teleporting away.

But Khorne despises magic in all its forms.
Anyway, why would he need to bind his champion to a dreadnought? Surely the champion goes IN the dreadnought.

Anyway, back on topic again. Does anyone have the Be'Lakor model? How does it compare in size to the Daemon Prince and Bloodthirster models?
@ Seb - What colour do you plan to paint it? Any thoughts as to a colour scheme yet?
