I'm sure I saw a WIP thread for May already somewhere, but I cant find it now...

anyway - I've decided to take a break from painting evil pointy ears and have a stab at that great beastie of our time: the ork. I did most of his head today, and I'd like your input on a few things about it. to wit:

1) blending - smooth enough? if not, where are the trouble spots? Does it look highlighted enough?
2) pink lips and ears. Controversial, I know, but what say you?
3) eye colour - red or yellow? pupils or no pupils?
4) hair colour - black or red? Blue? Puce? Any ideas?
5) Does he have enough Waaaaaagh! ?

Looking good! I'd say:

1) Plenty smooth. Highlighted "enough" is always tricky - it looks good in the picture, and would probably be good for a single display model, but might not "pop" enough for something you're using on the tabletop. Tip of the left ear is maybe a bit chalky-looking.

2) I like 'em, and like the blotchy effect with the green on the lower lip as well.

3) Yellow with red irises?

4) Something what matches the rest of the model's color scheme. I think subdued is the way to go, though, to avoid drawing attention from the face.

5) It's as warghy as the sculpt allows, I reckon.

1. It all looks good so far.
2. I think it works.
3. Red with black dots for irises.
4. Depends on which clan you're going for e.g. Black for Goffs, Red for Evil Sunz etc.
5. It'll look proper Waaaagh once you've got it done I reckon.

My man do it the way you think is best you do not need to get everyones approval before you paint something.

That said I like my orks to be dirty and warn... pink is one of the best ways to make green pop and I will be very disappointed if he does not have some tattoos and all manner of scars from years of getting stuck in with Marines and Eldar a like...

Very subtle stuff going on with the (lavender!) lips. I'd go with yellow eyes, just to contrast with the purple tints. Pupils? Naw, why bother.
