I think Jus has a point here. This thread is already one of, if not the longest thread in the forums. At this point people are pretty much just repeating themselves for the sake of shouting each other down. People have the right to buy the minis they want/like at the prices they are willing to pay for them, no matter how other people may feel about it.
Lets all take a Pikey approved Chill Pill and try to accept that diversity is the spice of life and all that jazz. :D

I feel a little twinge everytime someone insuates that The Hobby = GW. I got into this hobby despite the hoary hands of 40k, and I've done everything I can to distance myself from that game. I think that GW is doing everything they can to get people away from The Hobby, and the sooner it goes away, the better. I'm pretty sure that it also causes cancer and murders babies etc.

But that's so pessimistic. Here's some optimism: I have a dream, where everybody can play a game together that has nothing to do with GW. Where prices are low enough to where nobody has to spend thousands of bucks on little space football players to play. Where freedom in choice of games reigns and the players have control over their own destiny! Yes, I have a dream!!! A dream of a perfect society of miniature gaming, a kingdom ruled by me with an iron fist!!!!!!! And blood will rain upon sinners and sinless!!!!!!! AND A GATE TO RYLEH WILL OPEN ONCE AGAIN CTHULHU FTAGN CTHULHU FTAGN

yupyup, OK, repetition of a point ad nauseum does get old pretty quickly. I can see that. I would, however, like to make it clear that at no point was I (and, I guess, spev) directing our remarks at anyone in particular, or indeed anyone on these forums. No offence was intended.(not even to GW, believe it or not. Being rude wasnt the point.)
At this point people are pretty much just repeating themselves for the sake of shouting each other down.
i wasnt shouting nobody down. In fact, until Jus posted his comment, this whole thread was pretty much a group whinge.
People have the right to buy the minis they want/like at the prices they are willing to pay for them, no matter how other people may feel about it.
absolutely. I'm not sure where people started thinking this thread was a debate. So far as I was aware, it was just a forum for voicing one's own thoughts at the time. If jus, or anyone else for that matter, wants to buy GW minis they can go right ahead and do so. That was never a point in question. The thread is about our opinion of GWs ban on sales outside the EU and our opinion of GWs change to resin. This is not a fanboy forum. Negativity can and indeed should be voiced here. If something is merely annoying, then it can be borne in silence (e.g. the price of minis about 2 months ago was still pretty high, but to me it was an acceptable cost). If something morally offends you (e.g. GWs treatment of you as a customer) I think its important to voice one's opinion. If you dont, then you pretty much give up the right to complain the next time they do the same thing.

Thus, I complain. I still intend to buy the occasional mini (as I said), but I want to add my voice to the masses who are ditching GW. If enough people do so, then the company will be forced to listen. Or, they can ignore it, and go bankrupt. Or, they can ignore it and continue to make a profit. i cant see the future. But, I have looked at the present and decided that supporting the company who treats me badly is not something I can stomach doing.
current (2019) hobby interests
eh, y'know. Stuff, and things

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

@Ennui: GW IS the hobby. You are just in denial. The Chaos Gods laugh at your silly wannabe Cthulu and think he would make great Tako Yaki. :D :D :D

Well, I don't think the length of the thread merits a "lock up" or anything, but I certainly agree with any call to "take a step back", "chill out", or "put things in perspective". I think people are getting a bit too riled up about all this, particularly when I think we've all endured price hikes and changes in sale rules before. (And they certainly still suck.)
While, I'll say GW is not "the hobby", I would like to point it has for many miniature hobby-gamers, if not most, served as their gateway into this hobby (addiction) and community. I don't think bashing GW games viciously is conducive to any type of war gaming or role playing, at all, as there are so few of us already in the Nagoya region, the last thing we need is for us to splinter into "factions" or "clans", or for us to alienate each other. If, at the least, GW games have provided the community here with a common game which has allowed many of us to enjoy games together. It has also continued to draw new blood into the group. Just as a representation of that role, we might be reminded that the namesake of this forum bears the resemblance of one of these games.
Anyway, I do hope this only provides opportunities to explore new gaming systems or just get caught up in painting. Or maybe it's a chance for our wives/husbands/partners to slow our plastic hoarding.

NEVER!!!

Seriously though, I agree, this is a chance to try games we previously didnt have the time or the money for. Especially given how cheap some of those games can be.

Excellent points.
Exactly how it was for me, if it wasn't for GW I wouldn't be playing games like Strange Aeons now.
