I might actually give this Giovanni a call. What's his number again? You see I hear that old capitalist violin playing that he doesn't have a choice and he has to bow to management etc but that's why the worlds economy is up the shit because of lackeys bowing to their masters. If he really did give a damn and felt strongly about this he might just put his neck on the line, fall in his sword or whatever and put these brilliant letters through to seniority. Come on Giovanni, Monday morning tie over shoulder, storm in there, to the boardroom, grab Jervis or whoever by the scruff of the neck and say "Hey you get you damn hands off of those folks in Japan".

Bearing in mind that it is the UK website's shipping that went up not Japan's, so I doubt he will have any say in that matter and it affects every country which has it's own GW website, not just us. Not trying to defend them here, just sparing you the effort of calling, giving him a piece of your mind and then being told "Not my department guv. Call the UK."
They've recently closed 5 out of the 7 stores in Tokyo so he's probably very worried about losing his job as it is. That said, if they closed the last two we could probably go back to ordering from the UK at a reasonable shipping rate again.

Actually, I think GW would figure, "Hah, now we've got them right where we want them... now they've GOT to order from the website! There are no more brick and mortar stores to buy from anymore!! bwuahahahha"

I think the best place where you could send a complaint would be the UK customer service, although I understand you already did so, that is the only channel I can suggest.

Ummm, since that's where I sent the original mail I am not confident that it will ever get read by anyone with any sort of responsibility or authority.
