The icing on the cake...

Post by me_in_japan » Mon Oct 31, 2011 1:46 pm

Well, that's us well and truly fuckered now. Someone cunning at GW HQ has spotted a way us wee slinking people outside of europe and the US are buying their product, and are determined to stop us at all costs.
The fly on the wall of GW HQ wrote:Minion : "Boss, Boss! Those bastards in Japan are buying their stuff from the UK website and getting decent shipping charges! I thought the plan was to alienate all non EU and US gamers completely!"

Bigwig : "Well spotted, minion of mine. Take a memo: Close that bloody loophole, somebody."
No sooner said than done:
today's GW newsletter wrote:今号には : Important Shipping Announcement

Today, we've got an important notice regarding changes to shipping for customers living in Japan.

If you currently order your miniatures from outside the Japanese website (in British Pounds or American Dollars, for example), then your shipping costs will change from November 1st 2011. The carriage fee will vary depending on the size of your order - you'll find the new shipping costs when you get to the checkout on the website.

However, we do have some good news! The shipping costs for orders placed on the Japanese language web store will remain the same, and any orders over 10,000 Yen will be shipped to your home address for free. There is also no charge for sending orders to one of our Games Workshop Hobby Centres, no matter the size of your order.

If you haven't yet changed to the Japanese Games Workshop website, then this is the time to do so. Simply change the flag in the drop-down menu in the bottom right-hand corner of the website to the Japanese flag, log in to your account and place your order as normal. It couldn't be any easier

We all look forward to seeing you on our site in the near future, until then...Sayonara!

@Prim: There are so many threads which devolve into moans and whinges about GW*, is there any chance we can get a separate forum titled "GW complaints" or similar? I mean, on the main page along with the "Warhammer 40k" "Warhammer fantasy" "Warmachine/Hordes" and so on? It's a category unto itself, it really is...

So they're changing the shipping costs? They didn't say that they weren't shipping anymore. This could be to do with the service they use for delivery or simply the Royal Mail hiking up international shipping prices. Granted the price will probably be higher, but it's still going to be cheap given the exchange rate.

Calm down will ya. :D

#Edit#
I just checked, 1 Big tank box (Land Raider sized) has a shipping cost of about 8 pounds.
Between 2 and 4 have a shipping cost of about 24 pounds.
Between 5 and 10 have a shipping cost of about 33 pounds.

Lets see what it costs tomorrow before we run around shrieking that the sky is falling again eh? :D

Thanks Chicken little a.k.a. MIJ :D

Here I thought they were cutting us off entirely.
And, as always, the removal of VAT pretty much makes up for any shipping costs.

To use Prim's example of a Land Raider:
GW price on website: 41.00 pounds
Less VAT
Plus shipping of 8.33 pounds
=42.50 pounds shipped to your door.

Pretty much, I suspect, what you would pay if you took the bus into town, had a coffee there and picked one up from a GW store.

P.S. Is VAT 15% or 20%

I am beginning to suspect that with his propensity to sensationalize and blow even the slightest unflattering (to GW) snippet into some sort of earth shattering crisis that MIJ may have been a newspaper reporter in his youth. What's the Scottish version of the "World Weekly News"?

20% as of this year I believe.

And while it may work out around the same as going into town, it is still another example of GW of needlessly making life less comfortable for gamers.

They are trying to get us to use Japan stores or mail order. Also it's clear that they know about this forum and research from it. Perhaps all the slagging them off has gotten on their wick and they are just trying to piss us off now for a laugh.
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

^Huh? :?

@Ash and Spev: But nothing has really changed. Prices seem about the same and as I noted we CAN still use the GWUK site. They just changed around their shipping policy. Nothing is any less/more comfortable than before.

You can go about your business. Move along. Move along. :D
