Not wanting to flog a dead horse but....

Post by Primarch » Fri Dec 09, 2011 12:37 pm

...My Christmas present arrived in the mail today.
Miyu ordered me this from Warlord Games:
Image
It weighs 4kg and was shipped out on Tuesday evening our time. I received it today, though technically it arrived yesterday morning but no-one was at home to receive it.
Normally Warlord do free shipping, but because of the size and weight I had to pay for this. (well, Miyu did).

Guess how much?

Only 15 quid. Thats about 1950 yen at the current exchange rate. So for less than 2000 yen I got a 4kg parcel shipped from the UK to Japan in about 36 hours. :D :D :D :D

And GW wants to charge me how much to ship a single figure?     Fat chance!

Nothing quite like a massive box full of minis, is there?

(Especially, yeah, for a non-exorbitant shipping fee.)
Feel free to call me Dave!

I'll be honest and put my hand up and admit to not knowing what in tarnation Rorke's Drift is, but regardless, that many minis for that price of shipping is indeed a thing worthy of respect and admiration. I may not care for historical wargaming, but I salute those who run these companies the way a company oughter be run.

Ashmie really needs to run a film day in Tsu and make you watch Zulu.

The box contains:
60 multi-part plastic minis (not quick snap together or single mould minis, but the production versions).
6 metal minis
2 buildings, each about 1 foot by 8 inches. (with removable interior walls incase you want to recreate certain scenes from the movie).
A Resin wagon barricade
Approximately 6 feet of resin barricades.

Oh, and due to the discount coupon I used AND the fact that they dont charge VAT, the whole thing came to 16250 yen, just a couple of hundred yen more than Dreadfleet. :D :D :D

Wow! :) Great deal and nice set. I also agree there should be a little community educational opportunity would be a great benefit for those without a great deal of knowledge of great historic moments in Imperial history. ;) (Moments when the British Empire didn't lose to men armed with spears and cowhide shields.)

But, I hate to be a wet blanket, but ... technically don't you have to wait till Christmas to open it? :?

(or can you open it, paint and model things, and then repack it on Christmas Eve to be opened again on Christmas?) :D

Yeah, I have to wait, but thats part of the fun of Christmas right?

Incidentally, one of the reports I read about the Anglo-Zulu war said that at Rorke's drift all of the British fatalities were caused by rifle fire rather than by spears. The Zulus had a lot of guns, though they were of a much lower quality than the British Martini-Henrys.
The more I think about it, the more the Zulus sound like Orks. :D

GW did their own take on it once with the scenario Blood Bath at Orc's Drift for 2nd WHFB.

They also did a 40k display using Praetorian IG for a games day.
