Hi all

Post by YellowStreak » Tue Mar 27, 2012 3:05 pm

Hi All,

I'm an Aussie from Sydney who is moving to Nagoya in early May. I've played alot of GW games in the past (Warhammer, 40k, BloodBowl, Necromunda, Epic, Space Hulk, etc) but haven't really played anything for about 10 years.

I'm interested in getting back into some gaming (Blood Bowl is my all time favourite) so am interested in anything regular in the Nagoya area.

Cheers,

Justin.

Welcome to the community and we will be eager to see you when you get here. :)

Oh, don't forget to buy a couple of "inch" tape measures before you come. Also it wouldn't hurt to buy some of the models you want to assemble here so you can get the leisure of buying them in a store and without the bump up in prices here in Japan.

Hi YS.

Welcome to the forums. Blood Bowl is a fan favourite of many of our forum users, so you should hopefully be able to find a few opponents. We are also pretty big on 40K and Fantasy.

Sadly Japanese prices are roughly as insane as those in Australia, so if you have a pre-exisiting army you would be better off bringing it with you.

Feel free to jump into any ongoing threads that catch your interest.

Regards,
P.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Unfortunately I sold 90% of all my figs years ago (only kept my BB teams) so I'll be starting from scratch.

I saw mention of the regular (monthly?) gaming sessions and a big event in May. Is there a post somewhere that has more details? (address/time/etc)

Cheers,

J.

Oh and wanted to ask, what do most people play? WH or 40K?

Welcome to the forums. Hope to see you around at some point.

As for which is played the most, it varies. We have a good variety of both here. Choose which you like and I'm sure you will find someone to challenge.

Hey Blood Bowl is all you need really. Save your money and bring those with you. I have Space Hulk too and a group of us in Mie have quite the collection of board games and pick up games.
I'm Ash the organiser for TSU RPG Festival and Halloween Lovecraft (boardgames and rpg) each year (all 2 of them so far).
I'm married and have a baby on the way so am down to gaming once a month these days instead of almost every weekend. There are plenty of good oikes here to organise something so you shouldn't be stuck for invites.
I would say WH and 40k get played as much as each other. Your best bet is Town Crier for a good source of Citadel and Joshin for end of the month gaming. Mondo books sometimes do Blood Bowl nights.
If you can make the one hour trip please come see the borderlands in Mie, we have groups in either Kuwana, Yokkaichi and Tsu.
Happy gaming dude. :D

Welcome on board, yellow :)

You'll find you have no problem finding a game of whatever you want in Nagoya. The folks there play at a venue called Joshin Kids Land near Kamimaezu station (about 10mins from nagoya's central station). It's on the last sunday every month. There is also a big event on in Golden Week called Nagoyahammer. This is a semi-friendly tournament. This year day 1 is 40k doubles and day 2 has warmahordes singles. Theres also a painting competition (with prizes - woo!) You'll also hopefully be able to play some pick up games as folks become available through the day. I'll have a dig around for the relevant threads and link em here in a bit. Aside from those regular events, Primarch (the site admin) also organises another 2 or 3 events each year, in Nagoya (cos that's where he lives) and badruck, ashmie and others organise things from time to time, too. You're also welcome to just set up a "who wants a game?" thread, of course.

With regards to games played, 40k and fantasy are popular (we mostly all have a faction for each of these games, with a slight leaning in favour of 40k) The new 6th ed this year should also generate a fair bit of interest. There are also plenty of folks who play warmahordes, Malifaux, flames of war, blood bowl, necromunda, mordheim, MTG and also various RPGs.

Anyway - as has been said already, welcome to the forums and please feel free to comment on any threads that take your interest. (check the dates on em, though. Beware threadomancy :) )

See you on the forums :)

-Dave (MiJ)

Ps - if you want to buy new minis, options here are limited to: anything not made by GW, or very, very expensive GW stuff. The non-GW stuff is best imported from Maelstrom Games, the GW stuff is probably best bought from a chap called ikeda-San, who runs a hobby shop in Nagoya. I've never been (I live in Mie prefecture) but ikeda-San is a top bloke and his prices seem to be the best in town (although still v expensive compared to uk prices)

Thanks Dave. Looks like I may just arrive in time for NagHammer. Is it held at Joshin? ( didn't see any posts that actually listed the location!)
