Howdy, and welcome πŸ™‚ I'm sure others will be along in a bit, but when it comes to 40k, you're likely in a very similar place to everyone else right at the mo. A new edition came out literally last week, and the rules for each army are still being dripped out this week. So, technically, right now nobody knows how to play 40k πŸ˜‹

That said, if you'd like to learn along with the rest of us, we're meeting in Nagoya this sunday, so if you're free, by all means come along and say howdy, and maybe even fumble your way through a new ruleset along with the rest of us.

The thread for the game event is here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4261

And the new 40k rules are available for download here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp- ... qOkGP7.pdf

With space marine data cards here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/202 ... ihilation/

Note that nobody has any points values yet. That's going to be in a separate document, released on Friday, probably.

Hopefully see you at the weekend πŸ‘

Hello, and welcome to NagoyaHammer.

As Me_in_Japan says, a new edition of 40K is being released digitally as we speak. (The hard copy of the rules, with a load of new minis is released on the 24th). If you don't have the models to play, someone may be able to lend you some.

Speaking as the primary local advocate for the game, there is also the option of Warhammer 30,000 (aka The Horus Heresy), which is based on an older version of 40K rules and focuses on the events 10,000 years prior to the regular 40K setting. The rules aren't digital or free, but personally I think they are really good. If you ever want to try it, let me know and I can set up a demo game for you.

Are there any armies you are interested in?

Regards,
Stuart

I practically live on this forum. Once you have 3 posts to your name, the option should be available to send private messages.
Imperial Fists are one of the stronger options for 30K, but I've never played with/against them. Personally I play Ultramarines and Word Bearers, though I have other armies in my "to-do" pile. Another local player is busy building Blood Angels. The old HH discussion thread is over here: viewtopic.php?f=97&t=4176
I'm always happy to discuss the best setting & rule set (IMHO) if you want to know more. :D

I would suggest trying 40K as well as 30K, as 40K is the more popular of the two systems. Games Workshop is trying very hard to keep the two games separate to encourage players to buy two armies.

Welcome! I'll have a spare army of Marines this Sunday which I'll be happy to loan out and/or run a tutorial game with.

Techncially all the games will be tutorial games since we'll be learning ourselves  Luckily 10e appears to be one of the more accessible versions of the game in quite some time so we should have no trouble learning together.

40K! Planning on bringing Space Wolves, Blood Angels and a bunch of purple marines using the Gladius detachment.
