Apple - You have to get approval to upload stuff to their store, you pay a massive fee for the privilege, only apple users can use it.
Android - You can upload whatever you like to the store, you pay a small fee for the privilege, anyone can use it.
And lets not forget that EVERY GW rulebook is floating around the web on pdf for free if you look in the right places. You are essentially paying 25 pounds to buy a book you should already have containing rules you canget for free if you try and 360 degree pictures which are available for free from GWs own website.
I really am failing to see any reason to buy this 'book'

*shrug* I don't imagine it'll be too terribly long before the official digidex is available from...less official sources. The thing is, even if the PP ones were available there, too, I'd still rather buy em, cos I would prefer to support the company.
Re: istore - does seem daft not having it multi platform. Although - something nobody has mentioned is that it's not actually for the iPhone - it specifies iPad. Probly cos of screen size and so on, but may be for more technical reasons.

IMHO it was a very good idea, much like Failcast(TM)...
No seriously
It's just that GW, much like with the switch to resin, seems to have rushed things and not thought the whole thing out well enough.
If only they had done it properly i.e. multi-platform, available in all regions etc. I would happily buy some of this stuff (although the price IS rather steep) in the future but if they aren't going to offer it her then Ya-Boo-Sucks-To-You GW!

25 pounds for the digital copy which requires no printing, no shipping, no packaging etc.
OR
20 pounds for the printed version on the GW store right now.

Hypothesis: they aren't selling it for android because the apple store has regional restrictions. That way they can treat the digidex the same way as all their other products and set regional prices as they see fit. There will be Japanese version (only Japanese language, of course) along on the J-istore in due time, costing in the region of whatever the j-codex costs, plus about 2000yen.Mike the Pike wrote: If only they had done it properly i.e. multi-platform, available in all regions etc. I would happily buy some of this stuff (although the price IS rather steep) in the future but if they aren't going to offer it her then Ya-Boo-Sucks-To-You GW!

Re: Well, bugger me - GW had a good idea...
You've read the thing wrong, by the way; it's NOT "Apple only". It's iPad-only. That's why none of you can find it in the iBook store. Presumably the fact that the iBooks store is more tightly controlled and it's easier to implement DRM through it is why it's iPad only and not on Android tablets - that and it's much easier to develop and test. I downloaded the sample version of the Ultramarines painting guide and Codex: Space Marines last night, and I'm quite impressed (other than not wanting to paint Ultramarines, but that's a different issue). The sample doesn't have any video content in the painting guide, but a friend of mine bought the book/DVD set and is very impressed by it. The Summoning Scrolls are 50p each, rather than the whole book at umpty whatever quid.
I'm not impressed by the price (although I'm pretty sure it'll be the same cost as the physical book come the price rise), but there's a school of thought that suggests that you pay for the content of a book, not the paper and ink, so why should the ebook be any cheaper? I don't know if I agree with it, but GW aren't the only ones who think this way. I wouldn't buy the digital copy as well as the paper one - I'd buy it instead of it, so I won't be downloading this one.
It also looks like GW are moving towards rolling updates; this digital document includes the Stormtalon Gunship - perhaps they'll start including other new units and errata in them when necessary?
Not sure about War Room - I'm forcing myself to watch that ridiculous video as we speak - but it's not really free. Sure, the app costs nothing, but you still need to buy the faction decks.
Now that the silly video is finished, that does have some interesting features, though. I wonder, do you need to buy the faction deck for your opponent to see his army during a game?
