I'm currently loaded with the cold and therefore disinclined to wade through all 74 pages of the dakka thread. Can anyone confirm/deny rumours of an extensive FAQ to bring 6th ed rulebooks up to speed? I had read that whilst there would be a big ol' $100 tome for 7th ed, there would also be an extensive FAQ designed to allow 6th ed book owners to continue to use that book (and thereby keep hold of those who would otherwise say "2 years! Feck off, GW!")

It's due out at the end of the month, so you'd better get your skates on. :D

I don't have a cold and I still can't be bothered to wade through that thread. I think they are keeping the first post up to date with new, confirmed info though.

On the plus side after wading through many pages of teeth gnashing I have come to the conclusion that I'll be going to Volks after the next paycheck and ordering the entire 5 Star Stories collection to use in my unbound army of wraithknights count-as of doom.

M.

MiJ: The rumored 6th ed upgrade is just that a rumor without much evidence for now.

Those would make cool Wraithknights wouldn't they?
How about Macross Battlepods as the counts as Tau....uh Tauknight? I forget what it's called offhand. Too many big robots to keep track of. :D

My money of on just a re-tooling/clean up version, not a re-write. Not that I'll be spending any of my money on it. Just the FAQs ma'am, all I need are the FAQs.

Yay! I just read that now SM librarians can summon Bloodthirsters to win Unbound games. I think I can hear GW pissing on 30 years of fluff

They can. But they don't have to. That particular example isn't fluff - it's a description of a game played to try out all the new rules.

As an example, it's perfectly in line with that 30 years of fluff to field an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor with a force weapon and allow him to summon a daemon. And for him to be the Warlord in a Grey Knights army. Likewise to have a Space Marine librarian secretly fall to Chaos and possibly drag the rest of his Chapter along with him. While the example in the upcoming WD is a bit silly because it was Chief Librarian Ezekiel doing it, I can see just that sort of thing happening in the setting. There's even precedent, as that's how the Death Guard (and perhaps the Thousand Sons, in a way) fell; calling out for anybody to help them in a desperate moment.

GW give you the playground. If you don't like some of the play equipment, stay off it.

Personally, I won't be summoning Daemons with my loyalists, but I have no issue with Chaos Marines doing so.
I must say though, that at a point in time where people are asking for tightly written rules, GW's attitude of "Feth it, we don't care what you do," may not be the best move for them to make, given the increase in other companies and (IMHO), in some cases better rules. Of course, that is going off what was leaked from the WD, so it is possible that 7th is a nice, unambiguous ruleset that allows for wacky options as well, but so far GW have proven incapable of delivering that type of product so I won't hold my breath.
I'll keep playing 40K, I just won't be taking any 10 Riptide lists or whatever people are spouting online. Just because something is possible doesn't mean you have to do it. :D

Kinda agree with the above. 40k has moved (been dragged, kicking and screaming) to a point where if one actually plays by all of the rules as written then the game will be filled with 10 riptide armies, accompanied by screamer-deth-star-seer-councils up the wazoo, all while Eldar farseers summon Keepers of Secrets

At some point (and now seems like a good one) one just has to throw ones hands up and say "sod it. Let just sit down and discuss how we're gonna play this game like gentlemen*."

*or ladies. Delete as appropriate.

Well, if Nagoyahammer was any indication, we won't have to worry about 10 Riptide armies in Chubu anytime soon.

I do, however, appreciate other games I play where I can field anything allowable in the rules and don't have to worry about whether it is appropriate or not.

Hear hear!
For me, 40K has moved into it's "Phantom Menace" stage. It's not the same as the old days, and sometimes downright annoying. But once the nerd-rage clears I just remind myself they are not making this game for old guys like me, they are making it for kids. And then I go back to happily cobbling together boarding planks for my Trukk.
