Well, that is certainly a er... choice.
It's nice to see that GW have finally managed to get the game to a point where every weapon option is equally as valuable as any other. Or it's just Power Level 2.0. One of the two.

Re: 40K 10th Ed. Discussion Thread
I think they've had a *decent* crack at it - most weapons now have a distinct role, anything with a jump pack is a separate datasheet and the cost is baked in etc etc. They can go back to charging for wargear (or some wargear) whenever they like with their 3 month points adjustment cadence, but I'm definitely keen for PL 2.0 in the meantime.
The hilarious bit though is it really is PL 2.0 for unit sizes - with some exceptions it's half or full sized units all the time. Which means my beloved Blade Guard still don't actually fit properly in an Impulsor with any character friends

I'm copacetic, but then I was always a power level fan, and thought 90% of the trouble with PL was just that they never updated it. Fixed unit sizes are slightly annoying for that "I must hit 1000 points exactly" OCD, but OTOH you almost never saw anything but max or min unit sizes in practice anyway.
There's no way I'm going to go looking in online 40K spaces to see the reaction though.

It is not positive, at least from what I have seen. The Other Dave wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 9:31 pmThere's no way I'm going to go looking in online 40K spaces to see the reaction though.![]()

Re: 40K 10th Ed. Discussion Thread
In my quarters it's been net positive - we just played through a whole season where it was largely true anyway and this is a better balanced take on it.
Fixed unit sizes is less popular but AoS does it and it's fine there - AoS is a great game. It just makes transports awkward

I am a super big fan of the whole setup because it's another thing in 10th where doing the default thing - opening up your box, assembling the models more or less to the instructions with whatever you think is cool and then putting that straight in your army - is absolutely not wrong. It's sad for folks who enjoy the expressiveness of highly granular customisation but I think the play experience (both in simplification and in reducing the delta between average and min/maxxed lists) is a good trade.

Re: 40K 10th Ed. Discussion Thread
I took a quick peep at some points of what I know.
- Wow, plaguebearers are 14pts a model now! They've doubled in points since 8th! Sure they have 2 wounds instead of 1, but they've also lost FnP and their shroud of flies -1 to hit them thing, so I'd honestly argue they are about the same resilience if not a little more squishy now.
- Unless I'm misunderstanding the rules, you can only take plaguebearers in 10 man units? Doesn't feel very horde-y. Also makes taking a leader much more underwhelming. Taking Epidemius to give a 30 man squad of plaguebearers 4+ invuls rather than 5+ would be really juicy. Spending the points to take Epidemius just to buff a 10 man squad seems meh.
- Why in the world would they make plague marines, whose holy number is 7 and are sold in boxes of 7, only available in 5 or 10 man squads? (Don't answer that I know it's so you have to buy 5 boxes of plague marines for ***optimal*** value)
- I think this is gonna be the edition of big and stompy. Infantry being T4 vs T5 seems negligible, but when you can take tanks or monsters that are T9-T12 those are gonna stay around a long time and honestly seems like only other big stuff like that could even contest. Not sure if I like it or not. Big players should be able to stick around for at least a few turns and not simply be shot off the board by tons of small/medium gun infantry. Probably a good change imo.
p.s. Yes, plaguebearer is my baseline measurement that I compare everything against

Plague Marines have been 5-10 for a bit, I'm not sure the rules.folks ever appreciated the gimmick as much as the folks who designed the sprues did

I deleted my previous long and ranty post.
More and more I get the feeling that 10th probably isn't for me. Shouganai.

Re: 40K 10th Ed. Discussion Thread
I didn't post my overly long reply which was mostly "it's *fine*" in far too many words

It's totally OK if the game is not for you. I'm super glad this time we can all figure out whether that's true for us or not with our existing collections and maybe some printer ink costs (about to head to the combini to put a lot of 100en coins into the printer myself).
My feeling is that in play, the mission rules, detachments and balance will have a bigger impact on enjoyment than these kind of army composition questions, so I'd still encourage you to give it a crack. But that's not to say everyone will *like* those things either or that they'll all work out as well as I think they will. I'm a big booster of 40K/GW now but an edition will come that I don't like and my models will gather dust while I'm trying to get WarMachine or an RPG or something going

I hope you can find some fun in 10th, but if not that's OK. One of the strengths of the club is that there is never *just* 40K, there's always some cool game to see and learn a little bit about, so it'll be great to see what you are enjoying come what may.
