The parts for zombies and cultists are not interchangeable. The cultists are mono-pose figures that come in 2-3 pieces. On top of that the pieces aren't divided in any sensible manner like normal minis (e.g. arms, legs, torsos etc). The GW zombie minis meanwhile all use ball and socket joints for their shoulders and heads. Any mixing of the two is going to involve lots of chopping and green stuffing.

Cultists are troops, plague marines are Elites.

Re zombs: Gah! I guessed as much, but blind optimism kept me hoping. Ah well, a bit o abuse should turn a cultist into a zomb in no time :)

Re plague marines: maybe in your fickle mixed allegiance force they're elite, but in this man's army they be troops. Glad to hear the cultists will be joining them in that slot, mind you.

Don't forget that you can use normal Chaos Marines with a nurgle mark and extra ccw to make slightly cheaper plague marines. You don't get Feel No Pain, Plague knives, or Blight Grenades, but they are a fare chunk cheaper.

Likewise, you can take Chaos Marines, exchange their bolters for chainswords, give them the Mark of Khorne and a banner, and call them faux berzerkers. They don't get WS5 or Fearless, but you can get Fearless by giving them an independent character.

The customization options in the standard Chaos Marines troop choice are not to be ignored. I really like saying "faux berzerkers."

Auxryn makes a very fair point with regards to faux-stinkies, but the rationale behind my nurgle army has always been: as nurgly as possible. So, basically, if they can be plague marines, they will be plague marines. Likewise, anything in the codex that can't take a mark of nurgle is a no-go in my army. Vehicles are the exception here, but in their case they need to have daemonic possession. The only thing I'll countenance being un-nurgly/daemonic is dreads (now hellbrutes) and a maulerfiend. The former because FW do such a lovely nurgle dread mini, the latter because I want to make one out of a hellpit abomination. It does vex me that you can't get possessed dreads or give them marks. I mean, why not? In an army where the lowliest marine can carry a mark of a chaos god and there are a plethora of daemon engines, why not let dreads do the same? Either would be fine, both would be better
