I agree consent it quite natural and best for gaming. I actually think it would be best to be open about everything from the start and not even hide which army one might play and options that might appear. One of the more silly things that happens so often is someone buys something brand new and doesn't speak of it until the moment it appears on the table. Ironically, this rarely seems to produce the desired effect.

Yet, this is a discussion about FOC and allies. So I would advocate that people should just forget GW restrictions on allying with your own codex. Accordingly, that secondary detachment would have its own HQ and troop choice, so really it would be infinitely more fluffy than numerous other alliances.

If you were playing Tyranids, orks, or any of the older codexes and you said you wanted to take an allied detatchment from the same codex because that's the only army you want to bring, I think most of us would call that entirely reasonable.

Seems that GW decided that the Force Org list and Allies rules were too restricting from a sales perspective. This is a lot more efficient than mucking about with the allies rules. We'll be seeing a bunch of these formations I bet. No matter what army you play, you can drop a big wad of cash and field a big wad of killy Tau Crisis Suits. Repeat next month with another formation. They don't even have to make any new models, just tack on a couple USRs.
