What I disaprove of (as you well know) is buying stuff from GW at all.

frequently, but I can nit-pick with the best of em In my defence, that is my last stuff from GW for...well, ever, so far as I can tell. That venom has been hanging over me for months. Was thinking about getting it before the embargo, didnt, and then found my Deldar had exactly enough transports for all my foot troops except 5. The Cold One riders were a tag-along on the venom, as I have had a cunning plan for some conversions which will be Ace and Fab, and I figured I should really just make a clean break of GW and get 100% of the stuff I'd been wanting. Having done so, I resume my Spevna stance.

BoLS and the sheer number of blogs about people starting new Necron armies would seem to say otherwise, though they maybe aren't going to be the best army around in terms of tournament winning spam lists like Veteran IG or Razorback Space Wolves.
I really dont care either way. I think that they look cool and from what I have read of their codex they seem to have a lot of awesome rules/weapons/wargear. Of course, initiative 2 across the board isnt so great, but every army should have it's weak points too. I dont want every army to be more powerful than the last one that came out and by all accounts the Necrons require a little more finesse than just spamming the same 2 units again and again which can only be a good thing.
As a Necron player yourself (yeah, yeah, it's Miki's army. ) you should be ignoring the podcasts and looking at all the cool new goodies you get.
