Since when? Shouldn't that be, I am a 40K player that occasionally plays Eldar/Dark Eldar but who also posseses a nauseatingly beautful nurgle army which is currently rotting away in my closet :D :D :D
Rotting away makes perfect sense to me.

Overall the expansion of options are good. I hope that it just stays in line with what chaos is. It does seem like they're going deeper into the forge demons which if done right is cool, but only if done right. As for the tech marines and dark apostles, there were Iron Warriors and Word Bearers so it sounds more like they are just fleshing out things they have said but have had unseen.

All the new Chaos stuff is now up for pre-order! Shipping October 6th. That's a week earlier than the rumor mongers had it. Naturally, nice pix and 360 views to ogle on the GW site.

Just been having another look at the new stuff on the GWUK and GWJ sites and I noticed something odd. The exchange rate to prices vary wildly. Some of the prices seem almost reasonable while others are still at the pre-golden era exchange rate. Hmmm :?

For example...

The Hell Drake: 45pounds - 7200yen - exchange rate = 160 yen to the pounds
Warsmith: 18 - 3000 = 166
Warp Fiend: 40 - 7300 = 182
Not too bad, especially the Hell Drake.

But then...
Japanese codex: 30 - 6800 = 226
Psychic power cards: 4.50 - 1000 = 222
Dark Apostle: 11 - 2300 = 209
Raptors: 20.50 - 4500 = 219

By the way the current exchange rate is 126yen to the pound.

What's going on? Reasonable prices on some items but the same old ridiculous prices on others.

If I may rephrase pikey's last post...

"GWJ's prices represent a markup ranging from 27 to 80 percent of the UK rrp.

Still not reasonable.

A 30% off sale would have people rather excited. A 30% increase doesn't bother people, no?

At the risk of starting another flame war, 160yen to the pound would be a price I could live with. Of course I would prefer it if we could order from Maelstrom etc at discount prices but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

Just to put GW's prices in perspective, a can of Heinz baked beans from Sainsburys online = 88yen from FBC = 400yen!

Meh, complaining about GWs prices is getting a bit old now. Personally, none of the new Chaos models are really doing it for me. The raptors are nice and the new HQs look alright, but I have other things I want to spend money on. Maybe I will pick up one of the new dinobots in the future, but not this year.

I'm just ordering the book for now. I'm curious as to the changes and the new rule book style. Everything else looks fine but nothing to really get me excited unless the fluff and rules grab me by the throat and smack me around a bit.

Its a bit vexing, as I do actually have a CSM army, and if I want to use it I need the codex. However, 6800yen is a ridiculous amount of money. That's 3000 yen more than the exchange rate makes it, which is just rude. I'm going to have to find a way to get a hold of the UK book. That, or give up on my CSM, which would be a shame, as I rather like em. I'm getting sufficiently fed up of being shafted by GW that I'm actually considering just not bothering with 40k anymore. I mean, its not like I actually play it these days anyway...

oh, and having taken a good long look at the new CSM models, I can say:

The daemon engines, all 3 of em, are irredeemably bad. Seriously. Not one of them should have made it out of the concept sketch phase. They look like children's toys. They remind me a lot of the big monstahs from WHFantasy, actually (mooaarr teeth!). The sculpts themselves are not terrible, but the concept behind them is pure crap. Doesnt matter if youve got Michaelangelo sculpting it, if its a stupid idea, its a stupid idea.

The raptors/warp talons are decent models. I still maintain that they look far too generic to be used in a mono-legion army, but in and of themselves theyre ok. I'm curious as to what the difference is in fluff terms between a raptor and a warp talon, and, critically, what my floaty nurgle guys will be proxying as this edition...

the mutilators/old oblits were and still are gash. Of all the models in the old chaos line up these were the worst, and yet GW persist in using them. Worse, they use them as the basis for a new troop type. Horrible sculpts. Horrible.

The aspiring champ I rather like, especially since he's not finecrap. Dynamic pose, nice detail, looks chaosy without being just spikeymarine. Likewise the sorceror. Bit generic for my tastes, but fine for what he is.

The hellsmith is the best of the bunch. The studio paint job does nothing for the mini, but theres a lot of nice detail in the sculpt and with a bit of jiggery pokery he could look quite menacing and scary. The dark apostle is a close second. Nice sculpt, nice pose. Amusingly analogous to the Imperial equivalent.
