Re: Nurgle Conversion
blimey. my opinions are twofold:
1) ace idea - the bastions and imperial guns totally work. good size, too. very neat conversion.
2)thoughts on the paint job. too clean, and not enough squishy nurgly bitz. With more rust, a few more oozy bitz, and a bit more of a "I may look like a tank but really Im a honking great daemon who's gonna eat your soul" kinda feel would really help. As it is, its just an imperial tank with some warts.
*edit* third thought: the chasse is worryingly similar to the one I built for my plague tower. Someone's been eating my thoughtwaves again. I hate it when people do that. Ahah! I shall have my revenge and steal his ideas for the tower shape! That'll larn 'im!

Not wanting to give too much away, but if enough people come down to the O-bomb event AND if you do well, you may get a headstart on making that tower shape.....me_in_japan wrote:blimey. my opinions are twofold:

@Leviathan: I like it!
Now someone just needs to build a Cyclops (the basic chassis is the same as the Leviathan, to give you an idea of how ginormous the gun is):

(Frikkin' frakkin' 600 pixel width limit...)

I guess I need to get to work on something... I am sure it will look nothing like the real model.. but it will kick butt.....

Hey Admiral, notice how all the best conversions are actual conversions and not scratch builds....There are very very few scratch builds that come close to looking better than something made with real parts.Admiral-Badruck wrote:I guess I need to get to work on something... At least, thats what I think anyway.

Re: Nurgle Conversion
haha I seem to remember someone all to happy to use my scratch built Thunder Hawk ... hummm I guess it is all about what one thinks of the Hobby... I think M-I_js LandRadier looked fine... had a few parts GW.. but was mostly a scratch build..one other thing to think a bout is that some one some where built all this stuff from scratch some were down the line...

Re: Nurgle Conversion
imho, scratchbuilds are fine as long as anyone can look at the model with absolutely no hints and say "ah, that's a XXXX armed with XXXX and XXXX. Oh, and I'd say it has the extra armour vehicle upgrade."
When you have the actual GW model its OK to say "this autocannon is actually a lascannon" but when its a scratchbuild youre pushing your luck in the first place, so weapons etc need to be clear as crystal. Thus, I find it best to actually use GW parts for guns n similar.
Another useful modelling point is: it's all in the details. In my experience, scratch building a hull takes a couple of hours. It takes two or three weeks more to actually finish making the model. armour plates, dents, details, rivets (rivets are vital, unless it's tau or eldar, in which case, why are you scratch building it?) all make a so-so scratch build into a model that makes folk say "ooooh."
that's my two cents. Feel free to differ
