What kind of Chaos Marine is this?
The colours are Thousand Sons, but I don't know enough 40K lore to identify the icon on the shoulder.

But the only pictures of post-heresy Thousand Sons marines I can find have a different shoulder design with a yellow Ouroboros.

Badruck is defo right in this case - its a post-heresy Thousand Son. As for the shoulder iconography, bear in mind that the chaos legions aren't like the loyalists with their ever-so-regimented set of designs representing squad/company/chapter. The legions (including the 1ksons) broke up after the heresy, so there are wee splinter groups all over the place, each of which has its own take on the old legion iconography. The shoulder icon does look pretty Prospero-ish (Prosperian?), so I suspect the designer just used a bit of artistic license and painted on a design which, to him, looked appropriately Tzeentchian.

It could (as M_i_J) says, be the icon of a warband, or even the icon from one of the 1K sons psychic cults e.g. Corvidae, Pavoni etc. Given that their Primarch Magnus was a cyclops, a huge staring eye seems pretty suitable for any 1K son really.

Wait, isn't that symbol on the shoulder pad the Eye of Horus?
The armor is definitely Thousand Suns, but the presence of the eye suggest to me an alliance with the Black Legion.
Unless it's my imagination, the modeler seems to have tried to make armor an empty shell, rather than being filled with marine meat, which would again be characteristic of Thousand Suns Rubric Marines.

Re: What kind of Chaos Marine is this?
The Eye of Horus is usually depicted with more straight-up Egyptian iconography, like, well, the Eye of Horus: (Which is kind of ironic, since the Thousand Sons are in all other ways the owners of quasi-Egyptian imagery among the Chaos Marines.)Auxryn wrote:Wait, isn't that symbol on the shoulder pad the Eye of Horus?
I agree with Prim that it's more likely some kind of Eye of Magnus.

From page 220 of Realm of Chaos: The Lost and the Damned:
"The Withering Eye of Tzeentch is a popular motif among his Champions. Often it is superimposed on an open palm. It appears on banners and shields and in all kinds of colour and material. It may be combined with other symbols ..."
It's definitely a Tzeentchian Marine, but not necessarily a Thousand Sons Marine, perhaps.

Re: What kind of Chaos Marine is this?
So, we are agreed. The remains of the figure on the base may or may not be some form of marine.
I think Tzeentch would be proud of this one.
