I pity the fool who tries to oppose Horus on the table top. He must be like 1,600-1,700 points by himself!

550 or so. Not for use in regular games though.

What a steal, point-wise! He`s at least twice as combat effective as Mephiston plus he gives all kinds of army-buffing rules...and the S10 AP2 Lance Orbital Strike alone has to be worth 50-75 points.

Yep, he is a steal. But then Angron, Fulgrim etc will be too. From what I have heard, even the cost of basic legionairres is cheaper. The Horus Heresy seems to be a whole new setting that uses the 40K rules rather than an expansion to 40K. Ie, it is Warhammer 30K.

That's what I've heard, too. There will be no crossover between 30k and 40k. Ie you can't just pick an HQ unit from the heresy and plug it into your 40k space marine army. As I understand it, in fact, you cant even play a heresy army against a 40k one. It'd be like playing high elves against Tau. (although come to think about it, that could be kinda fun... )

Yup, those Ws4, Bs4 elves would give the tau an absolute kicking.

Also, dont forget that in 30K crons are still sleepng, Tau are still using stones as weapons, nids are still 10,000 years away and sisters and grey knights aren't around yet either.

So, the scale of Warhammer 30K games will be much smaller than 40K? Seriously, that Horus model/rules could literally slaughter 50 Tacticals and maybe take a wound or two. If Horus is 550 points, I`d expect Tactical Marines to be in the 5-6 point range.

Since the WH30K armylists are only meant to be played against other WH30K armies, for every Horus on one side you'll have Russ or Dorn on the other. It's like apocalypse, if you rock up with your standard army, your opponent's super heavies are going to rip you to pieces. And just like apocalypse, it's not the sort of thing you bring along to a regular pick up game. :D If it isn't your thing, don't worry about it too much.
