To say that I am pitching a tent out of excitement would be an understatement.
A little more info here;

"...is a first-person shooter"
Disappointing. Call me back when we get a new game using the mechanics of the original Space Hulk computer game.

Of course it's a FPS. Did you honestly expect them to do anything else? And what's not to like about a first person shooter? It doesn't mean it's automatically a dumb game. If I had to categorize the first space hulk game it'd be as a FPS.
*edit* I'm unhappy about the lack of info in the review. GWs insistence on using no-name studios invariably results in mediocre games. Do the major studios not want in on the 40k brand?

Like AgP, I was once dismissive of first person shooters. I then played Borderlands on the PS3. I learned that I was wrong and that FPS can be awesome-sauce!!
Yes, a big studio would be great.

How is the review supposed to give any info? Beyond that short teaser trailer the game doesn't actually exist in a reviewable form yet. It's like expecting a review of a movie before they film it.
As for the studio, didn't they have pretty big developers for Space Marine and their online MMOs? Warhammer Total War is being done by (suprisingly) the guys who did the other Total War games. Maybe a board game from the 80s just isn't that hot a license?
Can we not have a thread which involves GW and doesn't contain some complaint or another? Someone actually told me the other day that they gave up posting here because they were sick of all the negative comments that followed any post about GW....

Who's complaining abou GW? AGP was complaining about the new space hulk not being the same as the old space hulk, and I was complaining about big publishers not doing 40k. I did mention GW seemingly not wanting to license out to the big boys, but that was more of an observation than a complaint. As you said, the THQ produced Space Marine and Relic's Dawn of War were very good indeed, and I can't imagine the Creative Assembly dropping te ball on Warhammer TW. Big studios: win. Small indie studios: no win. The obvious solution seems to be to use big studios.
Oh, and the reason people complain about GW is because GW keep doing silly things/producing poor models. If they do something good (eg dark elves) the threads are by and large very positive.

Nothing wrong with FPSes. However, there's already several FPSes pitting the player in the persona of a sci-fi soldier fighting aliens in tunnels, and a few set in 40k. Also, it's not a genre Im particularly interested in. The old Space Hulk game was, IMO, more interesting for its different style of play. Playing as a single character does seem to miss the point of Space Hulk, for me.

Why don't GW get Spielberg to direct a movie for them at the same time? Just because they may want a famous company to make a game for them does not mean that a famous company wants to make it. Developers will often have their own projects, licenses and brands. Any game developed for GW will cost a lot of money and GW as the owners of the IP will take a cut of the profits. Who's to say that GW didn't pitch this idea to all the big developers and get told where to shove it? It may well be that the developer approached GW about making this game and they agreed because EA, Nintendo and Sega weren't beating down their doors for the prospect of making a game based off a board game with a limited appeal.

Colourful metaphor, though it's not like this claim is unfounded.
