Knight Titans

So I picked up the new White Dwarf while I was at Yellow Submarine for D&D. Turns out it has the rules and points costs for the new Knight Titans. I actually feel it was worth the 500 yen.
You can take 3-6 as a primary detachment or 1-3 as an allied detachment. They don't take up the Lord of War slot so you could potentially have one of those too. There will probably be more precise rules to answer questions about warlords and scoring in an online Codex released ... soon. Or not. It really isn't clear.
Anyway, is anyone excited about the Knight Titans? I'm not planning to get one because I don't have an imperial army, but if I did I would be tempted.

you know, at first I was all "meh, stoopid GW with their big silly toy robot kits. Where's the old 40k I grew up with? Gah, you wouldn't have had this crap when it was the good ol' RT days..." etc etc blah blah,
but...
The more i look at it, the more I think the new knight kit is exactly what 40k is (and was). Big, stompy, gothic as all hell, and "I'm a 40ft tall warmachine. I hit people with my sword!" silly.
I actually really like the Knights now. I can imagine some people out there will do some really nice dioramas and paintjobs in general. Like yourself, I dont play imperials, but if I did, I'd be tempted. Far more than I am by the Wraithknight. I just dont like that mini at all. Shame, really...

You know what? I bet they would have done, if they could. They can now, so there they are. Same with the Baneblade and Lord of Skulls. After all, they published rules for the Baneblade in 1st edition, so they certainly weren't bothered that it was best left for Epic.
Right now, my only concern is what House colours will I use; Hufflepuff or Slytherin.

Haha, classic!
Well I'm pretty excited about the knights, one will be enough for me though.

Such a nice model for a change and in a way it's thinking outside the box to get old hands buy stuff from GW again. Unfortunately at 13,500Y a pop it's kind of hard to justify more than one. Especially when they...
Jes Bickham Some clarification on the rules we presented in White Dwarf today for some folks here: the Imperial Knights don't occupy any force organisation slots, they are not Lords of War, they are an army unto themselves. Something we forgot to say is that all Imperial Knights are scoring units, and if you're playing 3-6 as a primary detachment, pick one as your Warlord.
So apparently those two pages are all we are getting as a codex for now and even then GW forgot all those
unnecesary details like FOC and if Knights are scoring or not... I need a facepalming smilie.
GW one step forward, a dozen backwards!

Scoring? Those things are scoring? Oh, well done GW.
The model looks fantastic. They will sell some based on aesthetics alone. The fluff for the unit goes back to the early days of 40K. They will sell some based on people's love of the background. The rules were fairly solid, without being overwhelmingly good. So to guarantee selling more minis they had to throw in scoring on top.
Sigh. Why don't we just compare how much money our army cost us at the start of each game and declare the person who spent the most the winner?

But then we have to argue about whether to use current prices, prices at time of purchase, retail price versus actual paid price, currency conversion calculations, etc.!

So I can have an all knight Titan army if I want to, and put nothing but those buggers on the table?

@Spevna
Yes, but you need at least 3 to be a primary detachment. 4 might be better because it would make a neat 1500pt army. If you warned your opponent to bring as much anti-tank as possible it could be an interesting game. Don't know if it would continue to be fun after doing it once. Be expensive, and you might not get to use it much.
I don't think they made them scoring in order to sell more models, because I don't think they have any idea what makes a model desirable in a game. They have a decent sense of their own gothic gritty aesthetic and what makes a cool model, and they make some good kits (at a premium price), but just aren't that interested in the game.
I was actually working myself into a slow boiling rage over this point until I saw the Knight TItans. At GW they think Tau heavy rail rifles and high-yield missile pods both have the exact same value. Any scrub can tell you which is better. They think tactical marines are worth 14pts with And They Shall Know No Fear and Chapter Tactics (perhaps a fair price, in fact) and Chaos Space Marines should be 12pts with neither? Pyrovores? Deff Dreads?
Deff Dreads! I should love them, but I have never even considered buying one. Maybe I should look at them again.
People always talk as if GW makes unbalanced boneheaded rules because they think it will somehow sell more models. But recently I realized that they just don't have any idea. There are people in England who go to a tournament every month and try to make optimized armies and to play well. GW doesn't make any attempt to even find or talk to those people. The authors who write the rules are science fiction writers who put more effort into the fluff section than the army lists. And the fluff *is* important. But GW could easily send an intern with a clipboard down to all the major tournaments and find out what the best and most experienced players think.
Gork knows I don't play well. But even I can tell that precisely adjusting rules and point values is not their biggest priority. This hurts the game and the hobby.
So that's my off-topic rant. I now attribute all GW nonsense to ignorance rather than malice. But the Knight Titans do look cool, and the rules seem workable. So we have fun with what works and ignore all the missed opportunities.
