Ork Help

I'm starting a new Ork army,but haven't played since 3rd Edition. So I'm not sure what combination of units I should go for... Which units are good value point-wise? Which units go well together?

It would be great if somebody could give me some advice on this :)

Hi Kris and welcome to the forums,
I am sure others will be along shortly to offer suggestions, but for starters, you cant go wrong with Ork boyz. Point for point they are one of the best units in the game.

well as the resident ork man I say welcome to the WAAARGH!!!

and if anyone even starts to tell you they know anything about orks they are just plain full of it... no one on this forum plays orks.. if they do they are new...and may want to check out the wealth of knowledge I have to offer

like anyone out there does not know that... I mean really prime you are a marine player and you sold your orks because you did not like them stay off this thread..

Unless it is Konrad or myself no one has played orks enough to offer any real advice.

first off Boyz are your troops.. you will need at least 2 units of them unless you do not want them.. then you could take a war boss or 2 as your HQ and make Nobs troops this is good because there are a lot of good elite in the Codex... I like all the elite units there is not a bad one in the section... the other options for troops is grots... they are very handy and are most helpful when they are ignored... I cant tell you how many times they get shot for a turn and then get ignored to do mean things for the rest of the game..

Elites.... they are all good I like Komadoz the best right now because I run them with the special Character Snikrot... run them in large mobs to freek out the enemy and in small squads for a quick diversion... if the mob is small do not take Snikrot take the normal nob.. as he can still carry a power claw something Snikrot can't do.. Komandoz always Die I have never had the live though a game but they have helped me win almost every one of my recent games with orks..

Komandos are good but in games were there are a lot of tanks on the board komandos are just not made for killing tanks infact if a dreadnought gets his hands on them your whole unit will most likely be wiped out. so the Orks have my next favorite unit...

Tank busta boys these are really fun... they can all take Rokket Lanchaz .. theses kick the crap out of most tanks but will not hurt things with amor 14.. they do very well with armor 11 or 12 and they are very good at killing marines one all the tanks are dead... the one really bad thing about them and the reason I do not take them much is because of the glory hogs rule... they must shoot any visible tank if it is in range of not.. this could be bad but like I said there are so many tanks on the table these days they will do you well.. and for nids theses guys cut down big bugs better than most anything...

They are my favorite unit for most jobs I normally take at least on unit of 15 if not 2 units of 15 they can kill most anything just by shooting it to death... but if something gets close and wants to fight in Assault they are still orks... and can really lay down a beating if they have to...

they can really do well at killing light trans ports or small units of infantry...

Wow, That's a lot to take in! :shock:
I've a few more specific questions...
1) What do you recommend for taking down land raiders and other armor 14 vehicles?
2) In practice how much of a disadvantage is the glory hog rule?
3) Are vehicles worth taking? or it it best to stick with the green tide?
4) What's your opinion on fast attack options?

Any advice would be appreciated!
