Lore of Heavens: Comet of Cassandora
Lore of Heavens: Comet of Cassandora
I think there may be a translation error in the Japanese 8th edition rule book.
Here is the English version.
THE COMET OF CASSANDORA
Remains in Play Cast On 12+
This spell can be cast upon any fixed point on the tabletop. If successfully cast, place a suitable marker over the exact spot affected – a small coin is ideal for this.
For as long as the spell lasts, the player rolls a D6 at the start of each player’s turn (i.e. at the start of his turn and at the start of his opponent’s turn). On a score of 1-3 nothing happens, but place another marker on the first. On the score of a 4-6 the spot is struck by the comet. All units from either side that are within D6" multiplied by the number of markers already placed are struck by the comet. Each unit struck by the comet takes 2D6 Strength 4 hits. For example, if there are two markers in place and the D6 roll is a 4, all units within 4 x 2 = 8" are struck. A successful dispel neutralises the spell completely and all counters are removed.
As it is a RIP spell, it can be dispelled during your next magic phase.
This must be the case, as it is only 12 to cast. Such a low casting value would be odd for a spell that cannot be dispelled.

Where are you getting that from?
I have the rulebook in front of me and it ISNT a Remain in Play spell. In fact, on the 9th line of the description, it states "Once cast, the comet cannot be dispelled."

Yeah, what he said. Definitely not RIP. Once cast there is nothing you can do to stop it.
The comet is very deadly. The two strategies for dealing with it are dispell it as fast as possible and/or not be anywhere near the markers when the comet hits. Shouldn't be too much of a problem for a fast moving army like Woodies. More of a problem for slower moving armies like Dwarves and hordes such as Skaven.

Re: Lore of Heavens: Comet of Cassandora
By the way, 'Comet of Casandra' is one of the reasons I don't play nice at WFB tournaments anymore.
n the Ngoya Club's first ever WFB tourney many moons ago I took a fairly balanced 7th edition DE army and ended up facing a Tzeentch Magic spam army using Lore of Heavens (the Chaos book hadn't been translated into Japanese at the time and they were using Ravening Hordes IIRC).
My opponent was getting at least 12 dice every turn! There were comets landing all over the place that day and very few places for a Druchii to hide. Mind you, in the end I won the game and the tournament but vowed never again to take a knife to a gun fight

only problem with what (Mike la baton with a sharp end) said is that some of the best wood elves are not quite as fast as they were... in 7th edition still fast just not as fast.

Re: Lore of Heavens: Comet of Cassandora
They did not change the speed of units it is just that the units you take in an 8th ed army are different than the ones you may have taken in a 7th ed army. Example I would run more Tree-kin and I would run no Glade riders.. If I were playing Wood Elves. And instead of small units I would take large units. but hey what do I know I am just a 40k junky that plays Orks most of the time...

Re: Lore of Heavens: Comet of Cassandora
Thanks everyone for clearing that up
Though the final answer is disheartening
I got the other information about the spell from somewhere on the net. Just goes to show you can't trust those sources. Maybe it was an older source.
I will take your advice and try my best to dispel the damn thing! Horrible, it is truly horrible.
Thanks again all!
