Chaos Dwarves, Araby, and Nippon, anyone?
Re: Chaos Dwarves, Araby, and Nippon, anyone?
They do look really cool! I wish they would re-launch Dogs of war, but its very unlikely. They seem to be great fun fluff wise, and some of the models are still available on the collectors segment of GW. But they aren't supported anymore and are being left to die a slow death. I think 8th edition will be the final nail in the coffin.
I wish they would amalgamate some of the cooler elements and use them in a future empire book, that's probably the only hope for using them. Alternatively you could use the models in some way with empire rules I reckon.

LOL, love how they changed Legend of the Five Rings into warhammer fantasy. I think I'd rather just dig up my old copy of clan war and use that. It was much more in tune with the samurai feel than this.

They're not like Empire at all. No cannons, steam tanks or heavy cavalry.Admiral-Badruck wrote:I was just thinking and would not the Samuri be more like H-elves than Empire???
Likewise, they dont feel like High Elves with their fast movement and high initiative, dragons with wings, chariots and heavy cavalry.
Having read through the mini-army book I think they look really interesting and would be tempted to build an army if I didnt already have 2 1/2 armies that I havent finished building. The writer has done a good job of making them seem unique and interesting.

As a long time follower of Warhammer Nippon I have seen quite a few attempts at Army books over the years. This is actually one of the better ones. Th part I like best is that the base stats are not different to the the other human races. Humans are humans.
I also actually have around 2000pts worth of unpainted Perry Brother Samurai in my games room. If I ever get round to painting them though I will base them on the Warhammer Empire book. Why? Because apart from the lack of steam tanks and mounted Samurai having far less armour than a late medieval knight, the Empire looks a lot like a Sengoku Jidai Samurai army IMHO. There were lots of Peasant troops, lots of handgunners, warrior priests backed up by elite Cavalry. Now all I need is a decent 28mm Kirin to sub as a Griffin and a good Asian Dragon and I'm set.

By the way Prim, Samurai in the Sengoku error made extensive use of cannons imported from Europe, but AFAIK only during the many sieges of the period.

If I was do do a Samurai army I would want to base it off on of the existing army books.
It is hard enough to get some one to play you with an army book that exists let alone on that someone just made up trust me I have tried... hell i have a hard time with people not saying " I would have beat you but those are Forge world rules".
I still think that Samurai as High elves is a great idea you could proxy things in for the fantastic beings and though it would not look anything like H-elves nothing says sword master like Samurai IMHO
