You have no spoiler tags, so best to seek out news from Warseer incase some of your members are waiting on the new Archaon book.

(tbf my earlier post was a bit of a spoiler, but thought some would want to know...)

Some fluff for 9th has allegedly been read:-

I don't really want to comment on it...Well, I do, I just wrote and deleted a few lines summarising my take, but no need for haste. What do the good burghers of Nagheim think?

Any goodwill I may have felt towards GW has long since dried up amidst 18 month old books being rendered obsolete, rule writing that makes no sense and armies that are required to double in size every release to stay viable.
I am only vaguely interested in what they do to the game. If I can still play with my Skaven without needing to buy more, I may give it a whirl, who knows.

I should probably state that I was never much of a fan of WFB to begin with, so I'm probably not best suited for hyping the new release and extolling it's merits. :D

I heard a rumour that the new rule book will have skirmish rules in it.
Might be fun.

Ok..I think this new fluff, if true, is pretty bloody bottom-drawer dire. I feel for the writers however, given the impossible task of justifying this bean-counter driven reboot to jettison non GW ip and somehow make it seem organic and believable as a world. This new world may well be called 'Regalia'. What? That is, frankly, a bit rubbish. Oh, and Karl Franz is somehow back, despite the Old World being destroyed. How did this happen? The concept, if true, is a dogs breakfast.
This is just my initial reaction..having said all that, if there is a skirmish game a la Mordheim, I will cast my criticisms aside and muggins here will (hypocritically) give it a whirl! And probably love it too.

I suppose nobody's forcing us to change..recently tempted to dip toes in arcane monstrosity of 3rd Ed now, though, just because. Rick Priestley called it the most loved and least playable version, but there's no danger of that being invalidated or altered. Oldhammer anyone?
Will people be sticking with 8th? Quitting? Trying this new palaver? Is anyone looking at alternative systems?

I think even though they change the world and the fluff, for me the most real Old World will always be first and second edition Warhammer Fantasy roleplay. Why? Because that world is so similar to how our own was once. There is a feeling of nostalgia and European heritage. Floating worlds and alteranative realties reminds me of C.S. Lewis and The Magicians Nephew. It doesn't matter if they write the end times, it's a lot like the Alien movies and Prometheus in that they connect but are different takes on a theme. I don't need to rush out and buy anything. I think some of the ideas are interesting though but for a Sci-Fi theme. Is it believable and does it sound like it has depth? Maybe not.

In answer to your question Lovejoy. Yes I think I will still play Warhammer, the old fluff though. Hail Caesar rules are still a good idea for a quick game. Although I would miss my goblin fanatic special rules.
I enjoyed 2nd, 6th and 7th edition Fantasy. Got my fair fix of good games from those. Finishing the game is a key poiny so any rule set must speed up the game or we have to allow a full day of play I suppose.

Did someone say Oldhammer?
I would happily spend a day playing RT or RoC.

@Spev, I have the Warhammer Armies book to go with 3rd (received it by mistake, after ordering a 2nd hand WFRP, but enjoyed reading it so much I kept it) and I've just ordered a reasonably priced copy of 3rd itself.

Let's do it, matey!

@Ashmie, We can probably bodge together some rules for Hail Caesar units like fanatics. Orcs and Goblins wouldn't be the same otherwise. It'll happen!
