As a Wood Elf player, I extend to you Mr. Voss our utmost appreciation for your kind words
I guess Dark Elves were ready to be released. As you say, probably not many major changes, just some buffs and complete the model updates from last time, i.e. the witch elves and dark riders. We haven't seen the book yet, but the sheer number of bonuses/special rules is quite eye opening. But I have to stop myself sometimes from claiming foul. Let's have a look:
Wood Elf Wardancer pt cost double of the new darkelf spearmen (dreadspears)
ws 6 bs 4 s 3 t 3 a 2 i 6 w 1 ld 8 - rules: talismanic tattoos (6+ ward), dances of Loec, wardancer weapons (+1 strength if charge), woodland strider (doesn't really mean a great deal under the current rules), Skirmish (some might say a negative under 8th edition rules) and Immune to Psychology.
Witch Elf
stats ? - rules: Frenzy, Poisoned attacks, ASF, Hatred (HE) and Murderess Prowess. They can get further attacks and a ward save from the Cauldron of Blood.
So, yeah, I guess it is easy to cry 'the end is near', but when you look at your own army book you can usually get a good refreshing dose of self-reproof. Usually the biggest problem I can see is the point costs not being consistent, rather than the actual powers of the unit.
On another note, it looks like ASF will be an all elves thing, if and when the Woodsies get their turn.
