Re: Shadespire
I like that troll! Actually, I like him enough to consider making night gobbos an actual purchase. I'll think it over a bit, but nice as those wraithy things are, the troll is what made me look twice.

Re: Shadespire
The other model they've shown from the Moonclan warband is this guy:

So it seems like it'll probably be more of an adorkable fungal menagerie than "some goblins plus a troll", which is pretty awesome as well.

Re: Shadespire
Dang, Nightvault is already up for pre-order next week! There's Rogue Trader put on the back burner for a bit.
https://www.warhammer-community.com/201 ... ult-opens/
Plus a couple preview pics of other warbands.
Goblins we knew about:

But just look at that bugger! I'm in lurve.
And it looks like the fourth launch-window warband will be Tzeenchian of some persuasion:

A pretty bog-standard Tzaangor. All beastmen would be pretty cool, although then again anything like the funky individuals in, say, Silver Tower would be pretty boss as well.

Re: Shadespire
In prep for the Nightvault pre-order launch on Saturday, the've put a video up on the community site that previews the warbands coming out after the core set. The linked article also outlines the lore, for those who are into that sort of thing:
https://www.warhammer-community.com/201 ... ge-post-2/
Looks like the warbands are:
Grots

Tzeentch

Sylvaneth

Fungus monsters, I guess?

Sky dwarves

And some fairly generic-looking Chaos cultists

Thankfully, there are not two Stormcast warbands again, heh. Looks like pretty good stuff, and just from which leaders have glowy energy around their hands in the art it looks like everyone but the dwarves and monsters will get a mage.

Well, the Trollmob looks innnnteresting - one extremely scary troggoth (who can, when he's wounded, even charge twice!) and three annoying little squigs that can't even capture objectives. I actually think they'll be a bit of a finesse warband, because you'll be badly outnumbered and outmaneuvered unless you use your very fragile and special-purpose squigs well, and trying to score by capturing objectives is right out.
The Darkoath warband is also up for preorder next week, so they should get a community post tomorrow or so.
Speaking generally, I think it's a good sign that "season two" of Underworlds, in Nightvault, seems to be taking intentional steps to shake up the meta through adding magic and specialist, edge-case warbands like the goblins and the troll.

I was thinking that too - I like how theyre trying very hard to make warbands different from each other.

Re: Shadespire
Yeah, I'm really curious about the Darkoath, as they're promising it's a warband that's as unique in play as the Troll, but on the surface it's 5 regular humans and a dog.

Huh. Nope, they're just generalists with not very many special rules after all. The only things about the sculpts I'm really iffy on are the leader's hair and the axe guy's helmet too.

Re: Shadespire
Hmmn. A bit meh, right enough. Only 1 or 2 damage on most attacks seems a bit underwhelming. It’s allvery well saying ”these guys are the upgrade-y warband, that’s what makes them different”, but basically they seem to suck until they get upgraded, then they get useable, whereas all the other war bands start off useable and get strong once upgraded. I reckon these guys will be very hard to use well enough to shine.

Re: Shadespire
Yeah - they do look about right, in terms of individual power, for a 6-model warband, and there are at least a few ploys for upgrading models without using glory to get the ball rolling, but you've basically got a whole warband made up of the weak dudes from Garrek's Reavers. Which, again, is continuing the trend with Nightvault for finnessy warbands that need a bit of skill to work - the only really tricky group in Shadespire was the skeletons, and in NV it seems like the most straightforward group to use is the ghosts, with everything else needing you to play thoughtfully to some degree or another.
